In Washington State, south of Seattle, it snows and sleets and is just plain nasty in the winter. I drove my 4/4 for three years as my only car so it can be done, but there were times I wished I was in something a bit more appropriate . . .

Cheers,
Mark

I have been caught out in mainland Europe before mostly in ski resorts, just drove carefully. But in ski resorts as France now mandates winter tyres and other countries chains neither of which I am prepared to fit to my 1980 +8 then journeys abroad in winter from UK don't happen. And as others have said we love salt here in the UK so the car is only driven on dry salt free days.

Having lived in the Welsh Mountains, I'm very happy driving any vehicle in the snow, and consider myself reasonably adept at it.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people are not, so if I do venture out, I am usually stuck behind cars doing 2 mph, or worse, blocked roads due to poor driving. So these days, I avoid it if I can.

When we lived in Switzerland, we bought our first TVR Taimar and used it as a daily drive for several years. As with all our cars at the time, the simple expedient was fitting winter tyres (and chains kept in the boot, for "as needed" in the mountains), it's a no-brainer.
