I've just had planning permission granted to increase the height of my garage from 2.2m to 3.5m. (Converting it to a pitch roof from its current flat roof).

I'm hoping to have the building / roofing work completed sometime after Easter 2026 (No point in trying to build in the freezing weather).
Once the garage has been updated I'll be installing a car lift / car park.
I'm putting a deposit down on one of these in the next few days.

Ordering one of these tomorrow..... as a companion car to my 110th anniversary Morgan Plus 4



Will be just a year to wait....

Santa came early in September with a very heavy sack of Glenfinnan which took a few days to put together - BEWARE the instructions are shite !! and you end up doing some parts several times because of this, ping me OG if you want any tips

Do you have your lift controls / hydraulics mounted to the lift or on a pedestal?

I'm thinking pedestal as the width of my garage / lift is quite tight

Ian, this is mine mid build, you can just make out the motor & tank (no control panel fitted yet) at the far left hand post, the other option is front right or make your own mounting but beware the hydraulic pipe length that bolts to the ramp bed because the main ram is within that

Car ordered and specs / build agreed and signed off.
Current handover date 28/11/2026 (Just in time for it to be a Xmas present to me )

Got the instructions for the Glenfinnan lift......... yes they leave a lot to be desired,,,

According to the instructions, you need a crane to unpack the lift....?? Looks like I'll have to hit the gym before it arrives

If you use their chaps to deliver they use the elect tailgate and dollies to get it into your garage, most can be handballed, I just used levers, timber packers with trolly jack and axle stands at the appropriate stages, although I have to admit my old hernia repair was a bit grumbly after two days of shifting

The lift come with 3 drip trays!

I'm thinking the Pembleton will be living on the top deck predominantley as its the car that will "fit" into the extended roofspace best.

An update on proceedings...
It's been a busy, hard week of graft here at the Saxonian house-hold. SWMBO is not happy with the builders yard that has sprung up, but hey-ho...

Thursday / Good Friday saw the scaffolding erected

Easter Monday and me and my builder stripped off the existing roofing (and bloody hard graft it was too.)



The existing roofing was a bitumen covering with glass fibre which was coated with Decothane



Tuesday saw me loading the scaffolding with bricks as my builder cracked on with laying them.





Wednesday was another brick laying day as well. I also jointed the halve joints on the 2 wall plates

Thursday - Roof trusses delivered and fitted



These are "scissor trusses" as I need as much internal height I can muster (3.5 meters to the top of the finished ridge is what I got plnning permission for).



This is the view from inside the garage - On my first view it looks cavernous compared to the old flat foof.

Friday was a little quieter of a day - Dropped my Morgan off at Lifes Motors for Matt to fit new Kingpins and to carry out the service for this years motoring.

Although we did get the roofing felt on and the tile battens.



This weekend I have mainly been screwing the wall plate straps into the brickwork - Fitting new fence panels at my mates daughters house, ferrying the wife and the dog to the emergency vets (the dogs fine BTW but that was another £316 I didn't see coming this week )

Monday the 13th April will be fascia and soffit boards along with the rain water guttering fitted and then we can tile the roof - but at least the garage is now covered for the rain this weekend / coming week. I've been really lucky with the weather - just an odd shower that we coped with.

Have the garage door to upgrade ( fit higher into the roofspace) or change to a roller door dependent on the "art of the possible". I'm talking to our local garage door supplier who fitted this door, this week.

Monday 20th April - Garage lift is delivered - Updates to follow

Busy Busy! ....Thankfully I've worked through all my building jobs and think I have enough sheds, garages and workshops to last me this lifetime! 🙂 ... very satisfying to see it all come together and know it was the work of your own hands.

My only thought is to get half a dozen extra of the longest roof-straps you can find and fit them with loads of screws between the ones on the plans .... cheap as chips, but the world's going through a windy patch and the extra peace of mind when you're lying in bed listening to Storm Gertrude (or whatever) bashing about outside is priceless.

Envy you having a lift ... best I can manage is sometimes borrowing time over my neighbour's tractor pit.

Ian, if you can make the man maths work, go for the roller as it gets rid of all the internal horizontal tracks which inevitably get in the way of the lift or restrict the height the car on it can raise to - guess how I know

Think I can get the "man maths" to work as I've already primed a neighbour on selling the existing door to him for £500

Good thinking with the roller door, but check how much space you need above the door to mount it. The design I used needed a fair bit, 400mm I think.

Put me down as a +1 for roller doors over sectional door gear complexities and the roof space they take up... My good lady preferred the look of sectional doors, which I fitted to the front facing doors of the garage, though for the side facing door I went with the roller type. As expected over the years the sectional door gear and control systems have required adjustment and repairs whereas the roller has never failed only requiring new batteries fitted to the "key."

I had a Horman roller door fitted. It came with a low head design to reduce height and was fitted inside the door opening rather than within the gap. Electrics on the wall, exterior key unlock system if power fails, two remotes, safety cut off/reverse if obstructed.
Fault free over 6 years. Same batteries in remotes. Easy resets after power off (planned for electrician to do jobs). Never needed the key system.
I like the Pemberton ......if I had a double garage....

We bought a Garolla roller shutter door. So far so good.

But there is a caution - They use a franchise network of installers and don't make this obvious on their web site. You have to go back to the installer for warranty work, via their web site. We have been OK but I can foresee major issues with an iffy franshisee.

All tiled, dry ridge installed along with facia's - need to fit soffit boards and guttering then just painting needed outside

Yeah, mate of mine had one of those installed and only found out about the franchising when he needed some warranty work doing......

this is how tight my sectional door passes the lift post...yes that bracket holding the roller in the track JUST manages to pass behind the nut

It's been awhile since my last update as I've been awaiting a new garage door (roller shutter - I did the "man maths" and it worked )

Unfortunately it was a flippin' 8 week lead time on the door and the lift was delivered a week after the garage height was extended so I couldn't assemble the lift until the door had been installed

BUT - It's done



Here's the new door and a couple more images of the lift.





You'll notice the big grey block on the lift - That's a jacking beam I've invested in - It's bloody heavy...!

I never got round to installing a lift, as I had spent so many years lying on my back under my cars, that any time I had the opportunity to work with a lift it felt awkward. I have to admit that these days I do very little to my cars, other than the usual Morgan service tasks and greasing. A pal installed a lift that fits flush with the floor when not in use which seems to work rather well and the idea of sitting on a stool while removing wheels and the likes really appealed, though I am past the stage of breaking up the concrete floor to bury all the gubbins of the lift.

I did think of buying into the easy lift type of kit, but the weight of the various bits involved either equated to leaving them in place on the deck, or having to drive over them each time I made use of the car, neither of which appealed.... So still rolling around the floor with a grease gun in hand as a sort of self assessment test of declining ability... (-:

My garage was ever untidy with building materials and or car parts both of which included "stuff" that grew and was kept just in case it might come in handy and took up ever more space as the years past. I ever looked at the adverts for ever larger tool cabinets over the years to the stage we seem to be at today where it seems that such kit has grown to more look like kitchen design...?

I ever thought tidy garages were the domain of tool collectors who may not know what half of their highly polished tools were actually designed to be made use of... However, that was until some years back I watched this circa 11 min vid

Nice one Ian I couldn't make the man maths work on the proper jacking beam, but have found low bottle jacks work really well direct off the ramp when it's a wheels off jobbie
