I quite like this bronze one, sometimes I shine it up, sometimes left to dull, it’s about half way right now.

As a retired Yacht Master (43) he'll like playing with this although Astral Navigation hit all his numbers best.

I don't know why you are all so obsessed with watches as time doesn't actually exist on its own.

But without it you wouldn't know if your train/bus/plane was late..............or early come to that, or on time...................it's' all a construct I blame monks attending prayers and seafarers for state of time governance we now all find ourselves in.

Think of all the timetable schedulers that would be out of a job without it.

And who brought you standard time throughout Britain? The railways, of course!

Hence my first reference to trains.

Before the introduction of railways and standardized time in the 1840s, Bristol (for example) time was approximately 10 to 11 minutes behind London (Greenwich) time. Because local time was based on the sun's position, Bristol, located further west, experienced solar noon about 10 minutes later than London.

Key details regarding this time difference:

The "Two Minute" Clock: The historic Corn Exchange clock in Bristol still features two minute hands: one for local time and a red one for London time, reflecting this former discrepancy.

Railway Time: The arrival of the Great Western Railway required a uniform schedule, forcing Bristol to adopt London time (GMT) by 1852.
