i will certainly be interested in any spares,trying to get spares quickly on the isle of wight is similar to living in the outbackI have just bought a rovacomlite which arrived in jumbled box with no instructions,i have just registered it with blackbox and paid for a licence,but still havent tried to work out how to use it or find out if it works.could you pm with what you have including the maxiscan,i have a terrible feeling the rovacom could end up in the bulging draw of doom alongside bits that dont fit,work or ones i cant remember what they are or what they are for

I also live on the Isle of Wight and I have a 1999 4/4 with a Ford Zetec Engine. So far I have obtained all the spares I have needed from Brands Hatch Morgan. Andy in Spares is always extremely helpful, I have also bought various upgrade kits from Mulfab who are also very helpful. The bulk of the work I do myself, the car is pretty basic and the odd job has been done by my local garage, who also carry out the MOT.

Incidentally I know absolutely nothing about Rover V8's and have never heard of GEMS until this thread, but just for my interest, could someone explain what an O2 sensor has to do with the fuel tank evap system, which, if I understand this correctly, is where this thread started.

zach the only connection is i have been told that sometimes a random code can show an evap fault when infact its a fault with an o2 sensor.I also use brands hatch,len serviced my car and fitted power steering for me,i was very impressed with them.I think i may have seen you on the middle road a good few months ago.Apart from holiday times i think i have only seen 4 "local" cars a bright yellow and green 4,a green roadster and a green +8 3 roads away from me who never takes it out.i use my car all year if its dry and will look out for you.i do what i can for my car but i am limited healthwise and age,i will carry on with the main servicing at brands hatch and have a jcb mechanic who helps me out with breakdowns which are usually minor electrical glitches.I havent found a decent electrical firm on the island as yet.best of luck with your car.tony

A faultcode is what the ecu detects. It doesn't always lead to the cause of the fault. A component problem causes a knock on effect that results in an error code.
As an example, my Gems Plus8 detected " random intermittent misfire", It did not say what was dausing it. Next came checks to find the culprit. Plugs, leads, electrical connections, component checks.It was solved by changing to V-Piwer hiigher octane fuel.
Further more in depthchecks might have sorted it. Injectors, valves etc but they are bigger/expensive jobs.
At MOT my car was always near the limit for lambda test...Oxygen sensors being the hub of these.

My car would post an o2 sensor light if i used texaco e5,have not had an O2 problem since using tesco momentum or shell if on the mainland. Followed a post on here 18months ago,i think it was you,so thanks for that

code was 1447 not 1147 as i said....specsavers and all that

Just did a search and found this. Might be of use. It does describe possible causes not actually in the components, i.e. vacuum leaks etc.
In my case with the O2 sensors the Maxiscan live reading option with the engine running allowed readings from each sensor to be seen. The voltage reading showed which sensor was faulty. This narrowed it down to one of the two possible sensors, removing any confusion over which bank( left or right side of engine) was correct. The voltage reading on the faulty sensor was all over the place compared to the others that stabilised quickly.
Looks like you may have a process of elimination to find the cause of your evap fault! Good luck!

Thank you for your info,still investigating,both car and the rovacom....had to walk away from it for a couple of days before my temper got the better of me
