Has anyone any guidance for raising the seat belt guide fastened to the back of my driver's seat? I'm not particularly tall but I find the seat belt pulls tightly down onto my right shoulder which is slightly uncomfortable. In my "normal car" the belt guide is fastened to the door pillar at a position several inches above the shoulder which keeps the belt loose and away from the shoulder until it's really needed but not so in the Plus 4. Any ideas gratefully received.

I think it's a no-no as that's how it will have been crash tested and received type approval, it would need a substantial bracket to raise the over the shoulder mount and that could collapse as the occupants body weight is transferred forward

Do you have the piece of 'saddle' leather fitted on that seatbelt bracket, attached to the top of the seat? I think it's to stop the belt chafing the seat leather. My Plus Six didn't have it originally, so I bought them from the dealer. Once fitted, I noticed it raises the belt by about an inch and the belt doesn't start dropping downwards until it's clear of the seat face. Might make a difference for you.

I went with lap belts for that very reason. Two Plus 8s and a 4/4. Not concerned with how it was designed and tested here in the US. And with a Morgan the police are clueless.

I was only interested in functionality. Over the shoulder wasn't doing for me.

You shouldn't do that on these later models, as the airbags work on the basis your face isn't too near the steering wheel.

Mark - I'm not familiar with the saddle leather 'enhancement', I'd certainly be interested to protect the seats. Which dealer did you buy them from, please?

Hello MartO, that sounds what I might be looking for. My seat belt comes through the metal 'loop' straight onto the seat so anything which might give it a little elevation will help. Don't suppose you can recall what the part was called when you ordered?

When I had a Plus8 it had a curved plastic fitting that raised the belt just above the seat. It was curved and prevented the belt rubbing on the seat leather. It was fitted to the original guide bolted to the seat back. One broke and I couldn't find a replacement. It worked similar to a saddle leather patch, preventing rubbing on the seat.
I have thought of trying to make one but not delved into it yet.

You can source stainless steel spacer washers on E Bay, With a longer bolt, adding an inch to the height might work without compromising safety. Use a single spacer, not a tower.

They are an official Morgan factory spare part, but don't have the part number. They come in black or brown. I noticed them on an early CX Plus Four in the showroom at Krazy Horse, when I took my car to be serviced. So they ordered them in for me.

They are an oblong of thick saddle leather complete with a smaller metal reinforcement rivetted onto the underside of the leather, which also acts as the attachment bracket. You undo the seatbelt guides attached to the top of the seat back and pop the new parts between the guides and seat back and screw both back on to the seat. Took me 5 minutes.

I’ll ask Ledgerwood who service my car if they can track one down from MMC as I certainly don’t have the wit to make one like Rog’s and I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with those on nick w’s post. My mechanical skills are limited and even those are questionable which makes TM invaluable.

The item on eBay is very simple..it fits on the headrest support and you thread the belt through it...see the slit that makes it easy. It moves the belt up and to the side. Very simple, cheap (ISH).

As I often worked with PP, PC, glasfiber I made a new one to replace my broken one of small sheets of black ABS.

ABS or PC is often offered on ..bay.
You can cut it with a sissor on and drilling the hole is no problem.
10 minutes work and cheap as......

Thank you Nick, I've taken a closer look and it was one of those "ah now I see" moments. At that sort of money they're worth a try and I might look at the leather saddle type as well once I know the cost..

Yes - exactly as Martin described and as shown in pictures from Clemens. Revolutions added a small dense foam layer to the metal plate that sits under the leather to stop this from chafing the seat (showed me evidence of this on older CX cars when supplied from new). Overall it raises the belt a little - about an inch - and pushes it away from the seat enough to make it easier grab when initially fastening.

The seat belt discomfort is only a minor irritant really but now that I'm retired and I've left behind all the usual irritants that fill a working life I think if I can get rid of this one for about eighty quid that's pretty good value. If only it had been that easy before ...............

That reminded me. I had some leftover leather motorbike handgrip wrapping. It attaches with 3m type sticky backing, easy to remove. I stuck a short (< 2") strip onto the top of the seat, underneath the new seatbelt guide, just to give protection to the seat from any chafing. Seems fine. So far the new guides are still well proud of the top of the seat.

Off to Scotland for a Mog trip in a week so will look at these seatbelt guide options when back. The stainless looks good. Might try plastic first, possiblu using these as templates for better gersions.

Talking of seatbelts, am I alone in finding the seat belt female tucked way down at the junction of the seat squab and seat back very difficult to locate. Prior to a little mod I made, I used to poke around with the male end for an age before randomly finding satisfaction with a clean insertion ( no innuendo intended - honestly). To resolve my fumbling, I fitted an extender to the female so it sits higher up and is far easier to locate.

I have no problem with the location of the seat belt 'female' location.

After trying all the options I couldn’t quite manage to get the tight seat belt off my shoulder and away from my neck which was a real irritant in the t-shirt weather we’ve had this year but finally, the problem has been solved. Halfords sell a cheap plastic clamp called a Seat Belt Stopper which limits the return travel of the belt and allows just sufficient leeway to keep the belt away from my neck without compromising on safety. All for about a fiver.
