I purchased some bulk ribbed rubber matting to make the floor mats, parcel shelf liner, and footwell liners. Our car didn't have a liner on the firewall when we got it and I want to install one. There's no wood in there to fasten it to and I'm wondering how it would have originally been fastened.

MMC simply used glue to hold carpeting to footwell side of firewall/bulkhead and outer sides on later models.

And press studs to hold the mats & rear liner & gearbox tunnel cover.

Gearbox tunnel cover was lightly spray glued on my car but that was thinly padded leather. Didn't bother to re-glue as there seemed little point with the press studs holding the base down.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking Velcro for the footwell sides and firewall. I had leather covers made for the transmission and shaft tunnels secured with Lift-The-Dot fasteners.

Will the Velcro stick to the firewall? I wonder if the heat will cause the adhesive to let go.
