I would agree Dave but for the fact that I had three laptops during the eleven years I was living and cruising on a sailing yacht and none of them failed despite the salty tropical marine environment they were constantly in. They were only replaced to accomodate newer versions of OS. I think the use of inert metal plating on contacts played a major part in their longevity.

The Which website has been very useful & created this for me. The dealer is taking it seriously. They are in Leamington Spa as I bought the car via Car wow . The dealer trying to fix it is in Ipswich. I really didn't think consumer law was so strong. The letter is below:-

I'm writing to you about the MG ZS TROPHY CONNECT EV (BT****N) I bought from you for £xxxxxx on 30/01/2025.

I have had a T box warranty claim on my Jan 25 MG ZS EV since Dec 25 i.e. 5 months. It has been into the dealers 6 times & this last time has now sat there for 7 weeks. It seems MG UK have run out ideas & MG China have not come back after a week with any ideas.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 makes it an implied term of the contract I have with ***** Leamington that goods be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.

As you are in breach of contract and I've owned the vehicle for less than 6 years, I am within my statutory rights to ask for a replacement at no further cost to me.

I look forward to hearing from you within 14 days with details of how you plan to resolve this matter.

Yours sincerely,

There is also the Resolver web site which has been useful for me in the past.

Thanks guys. My frustration is that as a tin top it is very good . If they could fix it & extend the warranty I would be happy.
EVs develop 100% torque as soon as you hit the pedal so it is rather fast where it counts & has room for my son , DIL, grandson & SWMBO.
I can go from Southampton to Felixstowe on a charge with plenty left.

At 3.3 miles per kWh & a kWh costing me 3.9p it is quite economic.

Time will tell.

I think it is fair to highlight the challenges around the support chain behind these newer marques. To be fair to MG they have been selling in the UK for quite some time (as the Chinese products using the badge) so they are not exactly new to the UK.

If you look at some of the commentary out there around the brand new Chinese BEVs there is some shocking stuff going on with lack of support and spares. Cars off the road for 3-4 months following less than 3 months in a customers hands seem quite common.

There is a YouTube thread calls GeoffBuysCars from an industry experienced bloke which carries a lot of content around this. Jaecoo comes in for a serious pasting. He does have quite strong opinions on several things so click with some sensitivity. He also likes old Volvo's and other nice things.

Volvo at the moment have a major battery issue. Owners are told not to fully charge their cars.
Replacement is slow as available batteries go into new cars.

Hmmm, I have a Volvo EV. Not heard from Volvo about any issues or precautions.

Just checked, it seems to be limited to the EX30, 2024 onwards. My car is the C40, 2022.

Their recommendation has always been charge to 90% to help preserve the battery unless going on a long journey. I’ll just continue doing that until told otherwise.

I know that many EV owners do something similar, but TBH I'm really unsure as to actually how necessary it is now that we know that batteries generally seem to outlasting the predicted lifespans by quite some margin so long as they have heat exchangers to permit thermal management. My Mini battery is 34KWh but only 28KWh is made available to the car, ensuring that it can never be over or under charged.
