It seems to the air filter is put in the worst possible place. just behind the drivers side front wheel and sucking air form a gap between the housing & wing. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/air-filter-2.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/IMG_1335.jpeg) In Dec 24 I replaced the orignal filter with a K&N. The paper element had covered 6500 miles. You access it via the plate under the wing & as I live in rural Suffolk I had thatched cottage come out as well. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/20241210_113523.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/20241210_114025.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/20241210_114137.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/20241210_121527.jpg) After 18 months & 9000 miles I thought I should look at the K&N. RichardV6 also pointed they should be checked annually. I would say the field behind us is now a building site so dust is an issue, but as you can see the filter has trapped half a field. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/20260629_113733.jpg) I then cleaned it up and put it back using loctite on the bolts. What engineer uses bolts screwing up into something? I thought that was a no no. The photo is it cleaned but not oiled. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/20260629_114137.jpg) But I still wonder if a better inlet tract is possible as the plastic pipe is constricted across tthe top of the wheel arch. Has anyone got a good solution out there? ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/06/29/air-filter-3.jpeg)

Hi John, can not help with the pipe restriction as our Plus Six does not have this, due i suspect to the wider body on the six. We do still have the issue of crud and water impacting the lower 5th of the filter, we still have the standard filter but i change it yearly, in an attempt to reduce the water getting in, i cleaned the bottom filter access plate then ran a very small bead of silicon sealant around its edges and let it set. This gives the plate a bottom seal. It helps the water issue, but the crud still enters via the filters side feed. I dont use locktite on the lower plates bolts, but use copper grease. Never had a bolt come loose yet.

Thanks that is interesting as I noted galvanic corrosion from the bolts vs the riv nuts.

Sorry, down in deepest france, so sneaking away to read TM.😁 when I mentioned copper slip its actually the aluminium version, so no copper its aluminium in it. I see on yr photos the alloy is bare in the area of the lower filter plate, on our six its all covered in a thick layer of factory applied black underseal, bolts and all , the undertrays , side under wing protectors aft of the filter area and main side chassis area and jacking points have it, I keep it topped up on its yearly inspection. The front and rear suspension areas are covered each year with lanoguard, as is the rear diff and its mountings. No corrosion showing after 6 years.

Cheers. After the refit I sprayed the underside with ACF50 as advised by Krazy Horse. You can feel a greasy film on the metal

I tend to not use copper grease near aluminium. Copper/aluminium mix can create a corrosion cell due to mixed metals.

I believe you are correct, I purchased a tub of the aluminium version grease for the Six, but still have a terrible habit of calling it all copperslip, which its not, as no copper content, just aluminium. Too many years of using the copper variation.😀 dave
