To me it looks to similar to the Skoda Yeti I take it that those nice orange rings are to help pull them off the wet grass in front of the school after the mums have dropped the kids off.

Please don't tell me that Land Rover monstrosity is the Defender replacement? That's what they say. Or rather, they attempt to renew the design and gauge (harh, harh) the interest. Personally I think, that if they stop the classic defender style and go for such a surfer wannabe vehicle, they'll loose a lot of customers looking to swap to a newer model. They will lose most of their existing customer base. Few people buy a Defender as a toy - most want a work vehicle for farm or forestry or fire service or MCA or armed forces etc. Can you fit two sheep and a bag of sheep nuts in the back of that? Even the kiddies who buy the image and mount a winch on the front and a tyre on the roof, snorkel etc wont want such a poser design.

I cant even imagine the reaction consumers would give if Jeep tried to do the same thing with the Wrangler and just completely change the design all at once. Sure, the design has changed over time, but to me the redesign of the defender is too much and all at once.

Current Defender is on borrowed time, whatever replaces it will struggle to please the die hards, I remember the outcry when the series III lost it's split screen and morphed into the 90/110, some say the series IIA was the high water mark and it's been down hill ever since. Think I'll just hold onto my '02 TD5 90 Hard Top for a few more years!

The truth is that beyond 2014 the old defender will become impossible to homologate for the european market. Perhaps Tata Motors will move production to India to carry on for another 50 years, but over here Land Rover have to move on. What's more, JLR seem to have quite a good grasp on what the market wants - there's a load of stuff they make that has the punters queuing up that I could never see myself buying (Range Rover Sport, RR Evoque to name but two). As with Morgans I suspect that most of the moaning about the new model will come from old blow-hards who've never, ever, purchased one new.

What a bunch of you all sound like (well most of you anyway) "If it ain't broke ......." "bring back the Model T I say........" Ok a bit facetious but hell, I'm getting out from under my 'chair', I like it. Or should I say, I like what I think it will gestate into. This is simply a design /opinion exercise and the Concept that will definitely soften into the original design.
Cheers
