Morgan has barely brought back the Plus 8, and they have already swapped the V8 out of one of the cars to make an electric vehicle. It would be great to have an electric car that looks that cool, but it does lose 273 hp in the transformation. At least it looks nice:

Presumably the motor could be in the back, mounted as a sidewinder direct to the rear axle as no transmission is needed. And no trans tunnel required, so more cockpit space. All the underbonnet space would then be available for the battery.

Would make a very nice conversion for a 4/4...and given the low weight compared to other small electric cars it could have a reasonably good range.

In MOG magazine there is a layout for the Geneva show stand, and while (tantalizingly) the Plus E is listed on the diagram it is not in the text. Strange.

The yellow PlusE "prototype" is on desplay at the Geneva show.
It really looks very neat and the engine bay very tidy. thumbs
I wonder how much it will actually take Morgan to turn the car into a real working demonstrator. Probably the road legislation work being the toughest part.

But honestly I think it is a brilliant idea to fuse the classic British sports car look with top notch, eco friendly technology.
Morgan being a niche manufacturer needs constantly to look for niches to ensure their future. And that could be one.

As someone - was it Mr Tony - commented some time ago. Electric cars are only as clean as the principle energy source. Electric power is France is Nuclear, in China coal.

Not only the principal energy source - take Pious batteries for example - twice around the world from original material being mined, refined, turned into batteries and eventually installed in cars.
The whole vehicle lifecycle needs to be taken into account, not just the fumes from the exhaust (or not with e-car smile ). But that is very difficult to tax, hence the totally false system we have now... soapbox

Same article as Steve linked to.
So, if you want to be 'green' owning a car, don't buy new, keep your old junker running as long as possible. smile
Except that the fuel for them will run out one day... frown
