I had my insurance renewal quote for our tin-top over the weekend and was astonished to see the premium had risen by nearly £100 since last year - an increase of over 30%. A phone call to the insurers (Churchill) this morning saved me £117 as they miraculously managed to reduce the premium to less than last year.
Go figure!

They rely on people just accepting the renewal quote and not bothering to query it or search elsewhere.

Pain as it is I always challenge them.

Churchill tried that with my wife's ins a couple of weeks agoI just went somewhere else, the Meerkats always get me a good deal.

Always pays to shop around.

I have an annual telephone joust with Green Flag over breakdown cover. They invariably back down from their ‘let’s give it a try’ quote.

My Green Flag quote in June this year, covering both the tin-top and Morgan, was £48.17. I didn't argue with that one!

Just had my G & W renewal quote for Morton. Admittedly to my surprise its dropped over £90 without reducing agreed value which lasts three years anyway. I recall a drop last year as well.

The interesting thing is I renewed with Darwin which is a subsidiary of Churchill and the quote was less than Churchills last year premium !

I have just gone through the annual Mog reinsurance game.

Admiral stuffed nearly 25% on the renewal because I guess this was year 3.
The opera singer & the cats showed that Allianz Gold cost less than my 2025 spend.
But the online only web interface whilst trying to get the right NCD soon put me off .
I have / had 4 years NCD but Allianz showed 2. They wouldn't alter the policy, rather I had to cancel it & get a new offer with 4 years not 2 NCD. I tried that & for a better NCD record they want £50 more!


So I cancelled Allianz after finding a better cover for 5% less.

I am now back with Gott & Wynne. If you own a CX you should know they have reduced prices significantly since I left them in 2024.

Admiral went from £414 to £460 - would have probably let it go but comparison site ‘Confused’ had sent me a quote from Aviva for only £287 so it’s changed now.

Not quite insurance but my quote from the AA for breakdown cover went from £104 tp £166. RAC? - £66!

Ensure you have like for like. I don't say that to defend the AA but I had an experience where the RAC (and others) will recover the car 10 miles in the contract and any more is at your cost. The AA was recover and return. Not certain if it is the same now but it gave me a "moment" and given the way contracts and marketing occurs in this age I feel it worth highlighting?

Very good point. I have already checked the T&Cs and they are very similar.

I'm back with G&W this year, it's sooo much easier to deal with real people than all this online only malarky, especially sorting the agreed valuation & declared mods

I received my G & W renewal today, and it's £40 lower than last year.

According to Money Saving Expert (Martin Lewis), car insurance prices for new customers have dropped by almost 30% in the last 3 years. Gott & Wynne is a rare insurer that passes this on to its existing customers too.

Bob try Auto Aid, AA wanted over £600 for my 3 cars and wife included. Auto Aid £75 for the same benefits plus both covered if in another car not belonging.

The Which? Magazine report on breakdown cover had the AA at the top for a long time, but they've slid to the bottom half of the table in recent years. The RAC has been at the bottom of the table for some time. I've just had my renewal from Start Rescue (Which? recommended) for £110. That's UK cover for myself and my daughter in any car we are travelling in.

Britannia Rescue for us , any one's car at all anywhere in UK cover for the good lady and myself.
Home start and relay to home or garage of choice for £117 is a lot of cover to my mind.

Been with them 25 years and they do exactly what they say. £107 back then.

we used Start Rescue. Once the cars started to be over I think 10 years old the price shot up.

With Auto Aid cars over 10 years old there is a £25 excess, not too bad methinks.

+1 for AutoAid, never had to use them, but recommended by Martin Lewis for service and the price is good.
