Well, yet another twist in the tale.

I lifted the boot floor and took the intank fuel pump assembly out yesterday. Turns out it’s nothing like the parts book pictures - Different mouldings, pump and plumbing.

The actual pump fitted is a Pierburg 7.22013.61.0 ….. BMW branded and BMW part numbered 16.14-2228 808

There is a completely separate vapour retrurn / charcoal canister and I cannot see any sign of a check valve or regulator (unless it’s inside the pump).

Soooo

- I’ve ordered a new pump (£120 online)
- I’ve ordered some 6mm nylon fuel pipe (to match the OEM stuff) and some plastic push fit nylon fittings to match)
- I’ve ordered a check valve

Plan now (with thanks to Lorne for crystallising the ideas)

1 - Make a new assembly to fit into the existing system and add a check valve (without cutting into the exiting pipe work - just in between the tank outlet and the pipe to the engine)
2 - test with the above setup (fuel pressure gauge / hot start)
3 - Depending (or maybe regardless) on the above fit the new pump.
4 - See if there’s any brains I can pick on Wednesday at the factory.

The definition of being old is when aspirations turn into regrets.
