My 2025 Plus Four dashboard gauge oil level reading always reads 4/4 even after recent dealer oil change. I've heard that it should read 5/4 when full. Is this so? And how much oil should I add to read 5/4 without overfilling it? Thanks.

Page 33 of the Plus Four 2025 handbook (found here: https://morgan-motor.com/wp-content/uploads/Plus-Four-Handbook-V1.1-MY25-Web.pdf) which is titled "DRIVER INFORMATION PANEL Oil Level Readings" shows that an oil reading of 4/4 (green coloured oil can and engine bay symbols) indicates "4/4: Engine oil is full." The handbook also indicates the volume of oil that would need to be added if the reading shows the oil level is low, 3/4, 2/4, 1/4 etc. with amber or red coloured engine bay symbol. Addition of more oil when the test indicates a 4/4 status would eventually lead to "!" red symbol and "OVERFILL: Engine oil has been overfilled. Do not drive." Not to a 5/4 status. Whoever told you it should be 5/4 needs to be corrected. Your readings indicate that the dealer has refilled with the correct volume during the oil-change.

I think it is 250 ml per unit eg 3 to 4 . I was told 5/4 wasn't a problem.

Every time we go on a long trip, my wife asks if I have checked the cars oil. I reply I’m the only dipstick it has but she always asks . Thinks she just likes me calling myself a dipstick !? Could be worse. I know I’m the oily rag to her organising brain; she knows everything which is why I sold our set of The Encyclopaedia Brittanica .

Our 2020 PlusSix has always shown 5/4 when full, questioned 2 main dealers about it and they both said its fine.

Maybe the earlier CX cars show 5/4 full and Morgan fixed this later in MY builds to show 4/4 in later cars.. its the sort of thing they would do??.its just a guess..

My handbook (MY23) says that 4/4 is "full", 3/4 needs 250ml, 2/4 needs 500ml, 1/4 needs 750ml, therefore implying that 0/4 needs 1000ml.

On the working assumption that the oil capacity of the car is significantly more than 1000ml, the display would appear to be like a digital dipstick, which has minimum and maximum lines on it. Anywhere between the two - I assume - is OK. It could be bad news to drop below the minimum line (0/4), equally it might be bad news to go above the maximum line (4/4).

On a physical dipstick I tried to keep between the min and max lines, never going too close to the minimum and never going too close to the maximum. If it's your habit to fill above the maximum line on a physical dipstick (i.e. 5/4) then you may wish to try it, but in the absence of any further information I don't think it's a good idea.

On the plus side of Morgan ownership and Bmw engineering i have never topped up engine oil in any of my mogs between service from memory including four years with fords duratec. But i would love a dipstick.

My 2021 CX plus four has shown 5/4 since delivery!!!

It's amazing how we are conditioning to read the oil level on a dipstick, gives us a digital display and somehow, we still yearn for the missing dipstick........even when we find the cars very oil efficient and not had to top them up.

Same here, just been serviced at Malvern and indicated 5/4, why it's not 4/4 is beyond my understamding.

I just think its a matter of trust and good practice.Good practice to check the oil with a dipstick and no trust in the digital fandango sorry but there you are.

A very good mate of mine who sadly passed away had a brand new engine out of peugeot over a perod of a few thousand miles kept telling him to add oil turns out it was overfilled before imploding. It was hushed up three year old car no quibbles after a few e mails.
