Cathal Flannery GB Consignment SpecialistLike any salesperson I have an inordinate hatred of their inaccuracy and bullshine, close on the heels of Estate Agents and Solicitors, they are special purguring themselves to defend the guilty. The very reason our No2 walked away from general practise and works with charities. Lovely colour, all it needs is a soft top and the upturned bath removing.

For 140k why I ask…
A little extra and you’d get your Oak Green Metallic with your spec not a compromise of someone else’s - for that alone I can see it remaining unsold at auction, we shall see with interest where it goes.

Yup the arrogance of sales and marketing people continues unbounded hot on the heels of the total bullshine and rowing back from BB following the TM challenge of last weeks airbags and truck on the rear... Those blessed with memory will remember my "Anyone know this Aero" thread which was marketed by them without declaring the fact that one of their number crashed it heavily into the barrier on the way back from picking it up from the factory and had insurance history. Martin saw it at BB and said it was a real mess at the time. They don't realise what a microcosm of the Motor Industry MMC is somehow so anyone remotely interested in buying a secondhand will need a full declaration of the vehicle not some dodgy can we get away with it notes and advert. Simply put if that is their best shot at getting it right (advert) why prey would you ever trust a car from them or their level of service as these things are inextricably linked . Dyslexia is a fact of life and if the person tasked is chosen to construct the advert someone in management has their head up their arse, or if it is they, lower your dinghy and delligate to someone that has some level of skills in the matter. You either care or you don't !

I think you have inadvertantly (or,dare I say, through clumsy wording) labelled yourself as a salesperson.......and speaking as a former salesperson myself, not that the occupation should carry pejorative connotations!

I am a clumsy written English person however I don't expose myself to global critisism jeopardising any expensive mostly men's toys sales - I know my limitations There that's accurate now - loath them all.

Total thread drift and hopefully not a rant . Feel free to bypass….. I hate to see sales people or selling in general being criticised or a scapegoat. Poor sales people should be criticised and some industries may deserve it. This really is not about blowing my own trumpet but I’ve lived it and some aspects sadden me, like wrong info? Selling is fundamentally exposing yourself to the risk of doing business. Don’t go out, don’t call people, don’t make appointments and you will never sell anything. Always tell the truth If you cannot do something the client wants or needs, tell them why you cannot do it. If a potential or existing client says no to a proposal, accept it having moved as close to their needs as you can. If you say you are going to do something do it and do it to the agreed timescale . If you have a problem be honest, explain it and a client will more than likely accept it. Give them the option to make their decision to.
I was once in a multimillion buying role for an oil company . I could have been exposed to bribes but if your demeanour was fully professional that rarely happened BUT equally stupid often a sales team would present and at the end just leave the meeting, thinking their job was done and never ask ‘for an order’ My father was a wonderful businessman and his words to me were, keep going back to see the potential client and one day, they may have been let down, whatever and you will take an order. My sole life after 15 years in the oil industry mainly in marketing roles has been about selling, marketing., People say I am a born salesman, ice to Eskimos etc but following those simple principals just came naturally . Selling was simple Business was simple but hard . In the 35 years of design and printing my wife and I can count on one hand the number of times we missed a deadline which could have been costly as our clients were serious well know brands and companies. The profession is not all crap…. MM
