SWMBO is due a new company car, and they have issued an edict saying it's got to be fully EV. She stamped her feet but to no avail.

So we're bracing ourselves for fully entering the EV world. She does a lot of mileage (25k + a year) so wanted one with as much range as possible. There were only three options with a reported range of over 400miles, which will obviously be less in real world use. Two were Mercedes CLA models but the bigger Mercs have a whiff of 'lard/end of life care' and there was also an issue with the type of chargers she could use, so she's opted for a Polestar 2 fastback. I think it's basically a Volvo so fingers crossed it'll be OK.

Polestar are the only EV I like the look of - when they launched at Festival of Speed yonks ago I was impressed with the build quality.

Having said that a few weeks before we had a Dad family treat day out at Ascot for the Red Bull Air Racing when Paul Bonhome was winning it all and they had a Tesla there and frankly it looked like a poorly constructed kit car with shut lines you could get a matchbox car through.

Very satisfied with my iX3 50, fantastic range, here in The Netherlands with lots of speed limits range almost 700 km in real life, on holidays in Germany with luggage, 4 people and a bicycle rack and AC on with temp > 35 degrees celsius far over 500 km. And it drives very well, motoring 2.0!!

Yeah, she fancied a BM but not on the options list unfortunately.

The Polestar is the only EV I’d go for…… if I was forced…..🤦🏻‍♂️
I’ve been out in one from Bicester motion, they have a showroom there.
The build quality looks very good.

If only they were available in a colour rather than just shades of grey.

We're still completely happy with our Mini SE. 5 years and 35k miles, it's just as good as the day we drove it out of the showroom. Or it would be if I cleaned it a bit more often. I can't see us changing it for a good few years yet, if at all.

I'm quite happy with my Renault Scenic Alpine etech. WLTP range 377 miles. We can easily get 250 -300 depending upon A roads vs M ways . Remember 20% is kept in reserve.
I would suggest the company should pay for a home charge point as you pay 8p per kWh vs 50 to 90p at 3rd parties.
Charge rate is also relevant. The Renault can take 150 kW chargers but there are 300 plus units out there.

I have an extended family member who has owned a Polestar 2 for a few years, the ‘Long Range / Performance’ version.

As a whole, the quality seems good and there have been no issues of note but real world range is circa 230-miles on a full charge and this seems to be ‘grumble’ point.

Personally, I think the Kia EV6 / Hyundai Ioniq 5 is another one worth looking at, if the deal isn’t done AND, as much as I am not a fan of ‘the M-word’, Tesla model 3 is hard to argue against, especially if she has to do a lot of miles and could benefit from their charging stations.

Both a big fan of Hyundai, as we've had previous petrol/diesel models and they've been ultra reliable. Unfortunately none appeared when she was filtering 400m + range.

I think she'd rather walk than have a Tesla, even a free one. Surprisingly none offered by the lease company though.

We have a charger as she currently has a hybrid. We had to install it ourselves, but I have a mate who installs professionally so got it at cost. We're on an Octopus Intelligent tariff so should work out OK.

The Polestar can apparently take any charger, but the Merc was limited to high power ones unless you had a £1000 extra (or something like that. I tend to zone out when it comes to electric stuff)
