The owner has had it since 1982, so 44 years. Not bad, but not a record.

According to the article, they drove it to the factory on Monday. A bit of a risk, as the DVLA website says it's untaxed!

Not taxed since 1997 ? bit daft to let it lapse because it's free anyway as a historic

Mine is historic so no tax, but the DVLA still shows it as 'taxed' on Vehicle Check. I imagine they've assumed it's automatic and not gone through the Tax class change process.

I had a problem with Mrs Image's Triumph .... getting into the resto nicely so thought I'd get it taxed up front as it's free ... then got a letter from the DVLA threatening a £1000 fine for having a taxed but not insured motorcycle in several lumps in my workshop .... had to sorn it instead ...that took three tries before it 'took' on their database.

Apparently having a taxed but not insured vehicle is now an offence even if it never goes near the road ... no doubt been like it for years, just I'd never been in that situation before

K,

Always been the case, needs to be insured at the point of taxing, go back a few years ( no different now it's online, except they now have access to the insurance database) along with your log book or tax renewal you had to take a copy of your insurance certificate to the Post Office when renewing, The insurance might not be for the entire period of the tax you were applying for. I can remember taxing vehicles with a 7 day insurance cover note.
