I am currently running a 2009 Sigma engined 4/4 and note that the steering weights up the more lock that is put on. Is this normal or something that can be dialled out, as parking can be quite hard work?

Paul my 2011 4/4 did. Not come with power steering. Did yours ?

Nope, power steering is for wimps isn't it?

My 2009 4/4 Sigma is exactly the same and I also have a smaller steering wheel to make things worse. However, parking aside, the steering is sharp and responsive when driving normally, so I am happy with the compromise. Power steering has mixed reviews and is expensive, so better to accept the hard work parking.

I am sure it doesn’t apply to anyone on here but power steering has generally made many drivers “lazy”.
We all should know that when manoeuvring slowly, that the wheels need to be always on the move whilst the steering wheel is being turned, to prevent a severe scrubbing action between tyre and road surface.
A friend of mine was once an-after sales rep for a building company and had many calls for “defective” driveways, where it soon became obvious that it was the owner going from lock to lock in the same spot without moving. I still cringe when see it happening every day in supermarket car parks.

Yes, there us a name for it which is: dry steering. I also cringe when I see ignorant and lazy people doing it. Not only is it bad for tyres and driveways but all the steering components too, exacerbating wear through the system. I feel like shouting at people who do it (but don't obviously).
