This has already been mentioned in the advice for driving in France thread but it's worth highlighting as it potentially affects any UK licenced driver travelling to Europe. The Morgan Three Wheeler Club has recently published it's understanding of the current UK and EU situation https://www.mtwc.co.uk/2022/05/changes-to-driving-licence-warning/In a nutshell; to drive a Morgan Three Wheeler in Europe on a UK driving licence you must be over 21 and either: - Have held your current UK Car Driving licence since before 19th January 2013 or - Hold a UK full Class A motorcycle licence You can still drive a M3W in the UK on a UK car driving licence regardless of when you passed your test as long as you are over 21.

That is how I understand it from the relevant government web site (lost the link for the present). Handy to see MTWC publish it

Whilst on the way back from the Jungfrau-Treffen two of us were stopped by German customs for a "Random Check". They specifically wanted to check our driving licences and looked up on their database to confirm we were OK to drive. They were happy we had licences for type A vehicle and we were on our way.
As a reminder, to drive your M3W in Europe the MTWC understanding is that unless you were licenced to drive a Three-Wheeler before the 19th January 2013 then you need to be over 21 and either have passed your UK car driving test before 19th January 2013 or hold a full, Class A motorcycle licence.

Note for UK residents driving in the UK you simply need to have your car driving licence and be over 21

Did they mistake you for someone under 21 then Chris?

In Spain you are allowed to drive the 3-Wheeler with a regular car license. That's according to the Spanish regulations, and my bet is that they are respected across Europe. Why would a German Police officer stop you looking for your A motorcycle license? I can only think of it if you have a non EU plate, such as the UK one. Can you confirm this applies only to UK drivers? Because, I insist, with a EU type B license you can drive the 3-Wheeler without being bothered.

We were stopped on a motorway at the Italy/German border and neither of us have a front plate. After they had checked our documents they told us they were specifically checking the licence requirements.

I've done a little google research and it does look as if the EU licencing situation is changing with some countries appearing to be introducing the EU directive conditions. For Spain it is clear, as Marmota says, that currently a B licence is fine. For Germany it appears they have recently changed the requirement from B to A as shown in the first section of https://www.tuev-nord.de/en/services/driving-licence-and-vehicle/motorbike-driving-licence/ This it might explain why we were stopped at the border. France is a bit confusing with the gist seeming to be that you need A but can use B in certain circumstances which might be a reference to grandfather rights if you passed your driving test before or until they change. Italy and Switzerland seem to still be B All of this is my understanding based on limited research and not definitive nor is it advice. As always it's your own responsibility to make sure you are properly licenced to drive your three wheeler!!

So in summary... if you got your car driving license on or after Jan 19 2013, you now need a motorbike license in (at least) Germany when driving your M3W or Super3?
