You cant do without a Long Weight!
Worked for a block paving company many years ago - fairly fresh out of University but not as green as the boss took me for. Sent me to the local builders merchant with a list of stuff, and tucked 'long weight' in there. So I stayed at the merchants for most of the day, drinking tea, taking his dog for a walk, chatting with customers etc. Long before the days of mobile phones.
Finally went back to site just before knocking off. Boss had an absolute Paddy but I waved the list under his nose.......
