Hello all
I have a 1982 4/4 with a CVH engine and a 4 speed gearbox and the clutch is terrible. Is very hard to push down and it’s not nice to drive. I put in a new clutch and a new cable , new pressure plate however I don’t know the correct clutch that should be in it.
So I might have put the wrong one in!
Can anybody tell me the correct clutch to go in this car

My notes for my 1986 4/4 says the clutch is from a Ford Scorpio 2.0L 23 spline, 215mm plate
National Auto Parts Kit no. CK9001
Actually, scratch that advice, it's the new clutch type required by my Ecotec engine. For the original, I'd look for a Fiesta clutch.
Also check the bell crank on the firewall has not closed up, they are notorious for the welds failing and the angle becoming more acute, resulting in a heavy clutch with insufficient movement.

Ok thanks , we have tried two new clutches and pressure plants , and a new cable….
Its just harder than ever ….

If the clutches were for CVH-engined cars with a cable clutch then I can't imagine that the spring rates were too high, are you sure that the replacements weren't intended for hydraulic operation? That could explain the increase in pedal pressure required, possibly? Otherwise, have a close look at the bell crank, if the arms have moved round on the shaft there will be a great deal less leverage available. The original bell cranks made by MMC were not exactly robustly constructed, and a common mod when repairing or restoring them is to add a deal of extra weld and strengthening. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/09/23/Kevin-Vernons-11.02.11-8.md.jpeg)

I wonder if anyone knows the correct part number for the clutch ?
