Hi to you RibbleAdventures! Have to agree with Brownbaker.... it's easy to go too wide and too low in profile re. the tyres. it helps nothing. I buy quality premium tyres and if you want to increase roadholding go for all season or even winter tyres. Brake reaction bars are a must too, makes a huge difference to the chatter and judder coming back through the steering wheel.Yes to a panhard rod. But I'd check your springs first before fitting anti tramp kit on a 4-4. Don't start fitting rear disc kits as you'll just over brake the rear end then start messing about with pressure control when in fact the drums were more than adequate.
Front pads are it would seem a very personal thing but remember its a very light car and you want cold breaking efficiency.
Dampers up front... again they seem personal but they offer little damping effect and messing with them can induce some very odd phenomenon. My first thought here is to always make absolutely sure the standard set up is perfect before assessing what you need to change.
Damper fro steering, again I refer you to the last answer.
You haven't said which engine of the 90's you have so I won't comment here.
