Lately, there have been several instances on here referring to silicon as the sticky adhesive stuff. This is a common sloppy mistake but one of my curmudgeonly crabby aversions. I am seriously old so allowed some leeway (I hope).

Silicon is a pure chemical element (Atomic number 14) found in rocks and sand. It is a hard, grey, brittle, crystalline solid. It acts as a semiconductor.
Silicone is a synthetic, liquid or rubber-like polymer made from silicon, oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen. It acts as an electrical insulator.
They are quite unlike one another so, in the interest of maintaining my calmer demeanour, please TMers - get it right.
