Having discovered the smashed tool tray and dealt with the damage with glass fibre, I found that in actual fact the tray was the wrong way round and had always been that way! But on rotating it 180 realised it would not fit that way as one of the depressions butted up against the rear. Rather than replace it the wrong way I trimmed the now front edge. With the rubber mat glued to the bottom of the plywood and a strip of wood screwed to the top of the wood bulkhead to match the new depth it all fits nicely and is sound and rattle proof!

Mine was the same when I bought the car 5 years ago. Thinking-through the prospect of e.g. changing a wheel on a dark country road convinced me that the way to go was to remove the tray and maintain my AA membership.

The ABS type plastic trays are a bit thin for their intended heavy items

Best advice is to bung the jack and Thor hammer in a drysack and store on the floor behind the passenger seat

This was the damage to mine many years ago, caused by lack of care with a tyre lever



The sealant used to repair was some expensive stuff by Dow Corning as recommended by MWS, think it was low modulus & neutral cure (some give off weak acid as they cure - so avoid) but can't find the 3 digit ref nr, sorry

Just been out to the garage. The sealant as recommended and available from MWS, who supply wheels to MMC, is Dowsil 1080 RTV silicone adhesive sealant made by the Dow Chemical Company of Korea. They bought out Dow Corning and have now fully integrated them, rebranding to Dowsil. The sealant requires 48 hours of curing time.

Dow Corning and Sika are the preferred sealants in the Marine trade and sold thousands of tubes of both. I would go sikaflex 221 or 223 in black. Abraze the damage and spread over thickly with an old credit card or controllable spreader.
