I popped up to Lifes today who were extremely accommodating. Kevin there is very helpful to say the least and within seconds identified the problem. Apparently it is a faulty owner!
Being careful not to break the lever (it really feels that if I pulled it any further it would snap off) I had not pulled it far enough.
I am sure that I will get used to all these Morgan quirks. In my other car (Jaguar XF) everything is very precise and works perfectly.
I said when I registered that I would ask some stupid questions but better safe than sorry. I would feel even sillier with a snapped lever in my hand.
