To throw a new name in tne hat. A porsche 968, Club Sport if the budget will stretch. Near 50/50 weight balance comfy seats and legendry build quality. I had a 924 Carrera GT for 14 years frugal and fun. And starting to appreciate.

I've never had a Porsche and most likely never will. They are obviously fine cars - among the very best - but for some reason they attract a lot of anger in the our population. Why this is I don't understand: perhaps the concept of "city slickers" buying them with their silly bonuses but then we still seem to hold Aston Martin in our affections (being..er.. British?). Anyhow, the point is that being a sensitive soul, I like to be in cars that people either feel affection for or don't notice. So that kinda rules out the "flashy" brands: Porsche, Ferrari etc.
Currently still dithering between E330, SL320/500, 220SE but also having trouble staying away from a particularly lovely and expensive XK140 fhc. The fun is really in the search, so this might take awhile!

I am surprised nobody has mentioned XK8 or R. Early ones are cheap at the moment and generally they are well built. Coupe and covertible. Main problems are front suspension and nicoseal engines although any problems with those would have surfaced by now and unlikely to happen again as sulphur content in fuel has been reduced.

I have a nice solid but scruffy 140 DHC arriving with me from sunny CA next week that would do you just fine.....Could be persuaded to move it on.

Scruffy is OK but do the brakes work??

Now Viper for much the same reasons as already stated I also find my Roadster tough on the bum & back on long fast drives. Even my (supple)23 year old son made the comment climbing out of the car after last Sundays return trip down to the National car museum, that he felt that he had just done 2 rounds with Mike Tyson!! (his words not mine!)---So the big question is what next for those long continental tours? I am looking in two directions---one is a rebuilt S3 V12 E Type the other, mostly for reliability, is a 911 (997)---all cabriolets of course. The first I am seeing apart from the beauty also as an investment---at least thats my story . While the second is the most practical. Decisions decisions!!!

V12 E is a great choice....built for exactly that, a great tourer but not an out and out "sports car" for bombing around in.

PAS and Auto if you desire. My Brothers business is E Types and he is currently restoring a V12 from ground up and modernising the mechanicals with Fuel Inj etc and I thing the customer is spending circa £180k.

V12's are rising but not as fast as the early cars, they're a different market and for some its the only E.
