In very many ways it was inferior to the Renault 4 in which I learned to drive (and of which my father was a serial buyer-over the years he must have owned half a dozen R4's from new) We never had a 2CV, but Head Office did have a Renault 4 with the push you - pull me queerbox! Good little car, very practical, but without the personality of the Citroen. P.S. Forgot to say Welcome Alistair!

I expect they're all being used as chicken coups now Giles! There have been some great little 'kit' cars based around them though. Both 3 and 4 wheeled. I'd not say no to one of those Mehari variants, either! But then I've always been a bit of a Moke fan on the quiet...

We saw quite a few 2CVs on the country roads in Southern France when we took navigator directed "short cuts". Given the speed of traffic these days I think they stick to the rural roads and villages.

It's heartening to know that there are still lots of 2CV fans out there! Ours is a 1970 LHD 2CV4 which I have bought & sold no less than 3 times! She's definately here to stay now & we're hoping to take her to the big Citroen rally at Harrogate in August.
One of the main reasons you don't see so many on the roads over here any more is that the French had a 'scrappage scheme' in the 80s & many 2CVs & R4s were replaced by horrible AXs! Having said that, those that remain have become more 'cherished' & a good 2CV would set you back 10,000 euros nowadays!

I reduced my car fleet last year to get the budget for the new MORGAN and sold three cars, amongst them my black 2CV (very rare in this color). One of the very last built cars, the pure and simple "Spécial", in a fantastic condition with some nice and rare options. I coped with loosing the two other cars (Sunbeam Alpine and Triumph TR6) but I really miss my little 2CV.... George
