Greetings from France,
I too, in common David Foster, bought my first Morgan at the age of 18 from Morris Stapleton's - a rather tired 1963 4/4, Reg 7168 RH, Chassis No: B669, but mine cost me the princely sum of £485! (Mind you, this was in 1969 & it only came about because my dad won some money on the Pools!)I wonder where she is now?
Over the last 43 years I have owned a few classics - a Bristol 408 (whatever was I thinking? Right car but the wrong age at the time!), a Marcos 1600, an AC 3500ME, a DS or two to name but a few, but I've always gone back to my first love - a Morgan (it must be in my blood) & I have always had a 2CV in the garage - every home should have one!
My present Morgan is a 1992 Plus 4 M16 which has had some nice conversions done by Allon White's - hood, seats etc.
I am now happily retired in France with my wife & owning a classic car has proved a great way of meeting people.
As the name 'Alistair' has been taken, I chose 'esse16' as my user name. Esse is the village where we live in department 16 - only 60km from Angouleme & handy for the 'Circuit de Remparts' if anybody fancies a cuppa?

Alistair - Welcome to Talk Morgan.
Have you any plans to visit the Le Mans Classic this year; as a number of us will be there?
As for 2CVs; one of my favourite ever cars (I wish I still had it) was a Grey and Red Dolly; one of the last of the French built cars.

No problems - in Sept 2009 we organised a scenic run during the Angouleme weekend & ended up with 11 Morgans parked outside the house - 22 people for tea & cake - phew!

Hi Alistair, welcome. Some Morgan/ Citroen pics would be appreciated I like the idea of a 2cv in the garage, mine 'lived out' in the winter - I used to rug it up at night with a horse blanket

Welcome Alistair. We missed you by a couple of weeks and about 50 km as we drove home from the works with our new car. What fantastic Mogging roads you have in France.

Can't agree on the 2cv front - bad experience (not so much with the cars, but a repair centre).
AC ME3000 nearly joined the stable some years ago, but there was more work involved than I wanted to take on at the time.

As I've already aired on this site I have very happy memories of the 2CV I owned when we lived down in the Lot et Garonne (a 1972 2cv4). In very many ways it was inferior to the Renault 4 in which I learned to drive (and of which my father was a serial buyer-over the years he must have owned half a dozen R4's from new) The 2CV had such charm however, it was the perfect vehicle for bimbling around the countryside in the sunshine with the roof rolled back. I've always been amazed by how quickly they seemed to disappear from the roads of France after production ended; maybe that's just because we moved up to the Paris area, but I suspect that the barns and garages of rural france are full of them. I'd not like to have an accident in one mind you.
