MB V8 short of the AMG version are not quite there for me.
You buy the V8 for the soundtrack and torque curve. The MB V8 were mostly 3 valve per piston and in a cooking state of tune so along with the muffled exhaust never sounded funky enough. The AMG models were a totally different game and are just great.

If you are going for the S-Type then the V8 was quite calm but the S Type R was excellent and had the additional benefit of supercharger whine. Not so nice for ultra long journeys but great for normal driving. Make it as late model as possible as several worthwhile upgrades were performed during life. Look for cooked brakes as they were not as high spec as needed for R model. Back axle whine was common on early models and needed a total swap. Load up the boot so the suspension deflects and then drive it until warm and listen for whine.

Cheap as chips and twice as tasty. An under valued car that largely became the XF which wins so many awards.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I think Simon has hit the nail on the head! S197 Mustang. Character and attracts nearly as much interest as the Morgan, in the UK AND Europe, and in a nice way.

Interior a bit crude, but dirt cheap and easy to run and character by the bucketload!

If not, I would then go SL55 as proposed by Viper, but I think it's less practical, and certainly more costly to run.

Personally I wouldn't go for a saloon, and (I'm about to ostracise myself from Aeroman and 1560 laugh2 ) as I was very often told when I owned my E55 AMG, it's just a Munich Taxi, on steroids. Very capable indeed, but just not different enough from all the other, poverty spec company cars out there. Maybe the new C Coupe would be better?

Lastly, for that left field choice with character, what about some other yank? At least you don't have to worry about the LHD issue?

Cheers

Yepp... the new Camaro and Challenger are also on my mind. And... they are both available in YELLOW happy3 AND you can get a new one for the price of a decent used Mercedes. I also like the Charger and the Corvette. I'm not so much into SUV's though...

Now you know my list. Quite a few to chose from.

Of course I would REALLY like an Aeromax, or an Aston Martin but both are out of my (price)range. wink

Sunny greetings,
Ivo

Sorry - not thinking new or near new, or, if you don't want the blower I understand the XK is very nice - they are a bargain now. I shall be driving my barber (and pal) XK on July 1st. An exchange for his driving my Boxster last year. Quite looking forward to it!

Cheers,

Hi Robbie, truth be told, I only took about 5/6 pictures with my iPhone, 4 of the Minivan for Graham and in the others some 'women' just happened to walk across the lens as I was about to snap evil

Report on the show is thus:
Electric/battery/hybrid vehicles on EVERY stand
White the predominant colour (some of us are ahead of the times laugh2 )
Still some Matt colours though more clever, as in brighter but still matt.
Pretty girls on every stand, though I did feel the need to carry a bucket of the Colnels best and feed them up a bit.

Morgan Stand contained two M3W's, a 4/4 Anniversary, plus 8, a Supersport Coupe, a plus 8E and a new roadster. All the cars looked fantastic, except IMHO the 4/4 as the green was just a tad, well ..... Dull frown

My highlights?
- Spending time with Aeroman, 1560, Orthodoc and Schnegg from TM, and of course the rest of the MMC team (who I must say did the marque proud and worked their proverbials off) and the BBBSA guys and girls, who looked after us admirably also.

- In two days on the Morgan stand managing to speak with, two car company CEO's, four famous racing drivers (Three of them GP or LM winners) and an extremely famous rockstar. Conversations varied from 30 mins+ to a couple of minutes (ok the Rockstar only nodded and said hello, but I wouldn't have been able to say much more anyway smile )

- The Renault Wiz which I know one day I'll buy!

- The Bentley SUV which has saved me the grief and anguish of knowing I couldn't afford it.

- The Smart Brabus special 120 edition which I would have in a heartbeat ...... if it were half the price.

- The new Merc A class which is quite a pretty car.

- Subarus version of the Toyota GT86 which looked a lot nicer to me!

That's about it really. It certainly does feel special to be able to walk around all this metal without being carried away by a sea of people. Thanks so much to MMC and BBBSA for allowing me the chance to do so thumbs

Cheers
