Hi On my 2002 4/4 there is a rubber sheet above the transmission tunnel by the side of the hand brake it has a rectangle cut out in it about 6ins by 2ins there are also 2 holes either side I think these are fixing holes but there are no fixings any ideas what was fitted in the rectangle.

A blanking plate probably.
Sounds like an access panel to get to the handbrake, gearbox filler / level etc.
Most are round though...

Cheers,

Is it actually in the transmission tunnel, or above it... Is it where the stereo would go?

I think about 10 years from his original post but which model is it?

Seriously, if it is above the transmission tunnel then radio slot, especially if underneath the heater box, alternately it might be an after market fitment of some sort
