I'll second that. And while I'm on, for those planning a foray to la belle france, don't forget the priorité à droite rule (car coming in from the right having right of way unless you are on a trunk road marked with yellow diamond signs or where the road has a stop or give way sign).

Giles, We have learnt to guage the age of the driver and if of a certain age one can be sure that they will drive straight out in front of one's path: then they will slow down. Alternatively they will overtake (ignoring the NO Overtaking ) signs and then slow down. Hey Ho!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of these laws are useful like a spare bulb kit on board makes complete sense.

However there are limitations.......if the French equivalent of the HSE seriously believe that making motorcyclists wear high vis vests next year and that it will stop the " Sorry mate I didn't see you brigade " from pulling out from junctions not looking or just generally giving no consideration to other road users then they are completely mistaken.

All motorists should be made to take there cycle test as part of there car driving test. i did this when i was 18 and found what they learnt you on the bike sticks in your mind for ever. there words (think that every motorist is out to kill you)

Even todate i constantly think bike, as i am also a keen MTB rider, but occasionally have to go on roads.

The only time i ever came close to been hit funnily enough was when a copper pulled straight across a round about at speed, NO BLUE LIGHTS, i swore at him, he didnt do nothing because he knew how wrong he was.

Still didn't stop me getting cleaned up by a drunk. I was a motorcycle riding instructor at the time too. Nearly two years in and out of hospital and rehab, missing finger, hip replacement and a permanent limp and nerve damage were the end result (plus the end of my career as an instructor).

Funny thing is that the b%&**&% didn't even bother to come and say "Sorry mate, I didn't see you" just stood in the middle of the road until the police carted him away. Other people, including my wife who was about 50 metres behind me, called the ambulance etc.

I actually sold my bike when I realised that, as I was no longer riding it every day, it was taking so much extra concentration to ride correctly and defensively when I did take it out. I just realised that it would be too easy to make a serious error.

........so I sold it and used the funds to justify upgrading to a new Morgan!!!!!! Still hanker after the BM, but really enjoy the Morgan!!

This has laughably been watered down from a high-vis vest to a reflective item of clothing. The reflective area must be on the upper body and cover at least 150 square centimetres. An arm band should sort it. I'm going to chop up an old reflective waistcoat from work and velcro it. That should get me to the Belgian border.

Your right it is laughable because if they can't see the B----- bike what chance is there of them seeing 150 centimeters of reflective???? on that I would guess we all concur
