My Morgan came with a double petrol cap. First there is an Aston quick release cap, and then inside it, there is a not so quick locking cap. With the current fuel prices, it is perhaps not so tempting to remove the inner cap, but if I do, are there any side effects of removing the inner locking cap except the risk of theft?

Harald, The outer cap is just for show, the catch and seal is not very secure, the inner cap is wot keeps the petrol in! scared Seriously in the event of a shunt or roll over you would increase the risk of fire, don't be tempted to drive without the inner cap.

I left the inner cap and the keys sitting against the spare next to the high level brake light for a good 20 km over some rough roads doh

Amazingly it was still there when we stopped for a coffee. The key tag and door key had dropped into the gap and helped hold it in place. smile

That was lucky Peter!

Richard, I'm not too bothered about a locking cap. Car is usually garaged - haven't lost any fuel yet! smile

Likewise Graham. Certainly now looks better than the alloy Volvo screw one that mine came with!

I keep fuel filler cap key on same key ring as ignition key,
ergo I can't start the engine if I've left fuel filler cap open.
it hasn't stopped me from getting in the car to try though (LOL)
mainly at pre pay pumps where I'm so busy getting my receipt I forget to lock the filler cap and extract keys.
doh!!

With the price of Fuel these days you should be putting a chastity belt around that fuel filler, any body could be helping themselves if you leave that inner locking cap off !!!

That is certainly a solution Rob. It is just that I don't like keys jangling around on the ignition lock.

Richard: given the reputation of Volvo drivers in Aus I can well imagine that you wouldn't want any Volvo bits on the Mog.

inner locking cap? luxury!
not on a 1997 plus 8, I thought I was doing well to get a locking filler cap and a little anti blow back flap inside it.

Mmm .. I have an assorted number of keys (from new) but there only appears to be one for the filler. Must get some cut ... must get lots cut.
