Roadster Rear Shelf Storage
This is my solution to the useless storage under the rear parcel shelf. I went through 3 of the plastic rubbish on my +4 in 2 years of ownership and the tray in the Roadster is cracking after a year (less miles). On the +4 I tried a plywood unit with Aluminium Angle at the edges. It was quite heavy and dimensionally I did not get it right. This time I built a patern in Cardboard and had a sheet metal shop fabricate it in 2mm Aluminium. I have lined it with car acoustic foam (yes you could use neoprene). Very pleased with the result and gives much more usable space. I have just had a Roll Bar fitted so there is a removable flange on each side so it gets support at the sides but can be slid in between the Roll Bar support frame.

Andy that looks a super job!---and in my opinion v cheap not counting of course your time. The plastic tray supplied is a really unbelievably tacky solution inkeeping & along with the little wooden toggles (?). Another thought & possibility(speaking as a ceramic modeller)looking further into your achievement, could be a rigid fibre glass tray. This could come from a drop-out mould with no undercut. And yes once the wooden female master mould had been constructed, you or whoever could knock them out!! Place your orders gentlemen All the best from washed out SW19!--Hose pipe ban---someone is having a giraffe!!!

Excellent Very impressive! I would be interested in one if a bulk purchase was negotiated. +1 Andy, do you plan to put the patern availlable on the forum?

Well Gents I had not anticipated a rush of demand and I had already dismantled the cardboard pattern. I imagine I can recreate it with measurement from the final form. I am pretty sure it will not fit to a +4 without modification as the wooden one I made for the +4 did not fit into the roadster when I tried it. I think it was the mountings for the shock absorbers that were different. When I have done the test drive to Le Mans I will see if it has functioned as expected. Unfortunately I work away in Norway during the week so do not have much time to get in and do those measurements but as soon as I do I will post some sort of drawing. The idea of a GRP version would I am sure work. I did not have the time or skills to make that work. Thanks all for the compliments. If anybody wants to inspect it will be at Le Mans, Metalic Red Roadster V80 ACR. Andy
