Hello, I have a 2009 Plus 4 with factory fitted stainless spoked wheels. I want to get the front wheels balanced as I have wheel wobble at between 50 to 60 mph. I know this is fairly common and there may be other reasons.....but it seems the logical place to start.
The challenge is to identify a local specialist who can balance the wheels, not damage them as they take them on and off and torque them up afterwards. Does anybody have any recommendations of where to go in the North? I live in York. Thanks.....

I use Paul Harris but he is near Lichfield, a trek from York, perhaps try someone from the TR/MG scene, preferably with a splined mandrel for the balancing machine. Whilst the wheels are being balanced have them checked for out of round.

Check the damper blades for movement first. It will be cheaper.

There are no damper blades on a 2009 plus4 - the factory had moved to bearings at the bottom of the main spring by then. I have a 2009 plus4 also and had the same "wobble" - balancing sorted mine out. Wexford is a bit far from York though!!

C&S tyres in Middlesbrough say they can do this (and fitted tyres for me).

Forgot to ask. Do you have single nut wire wheels and if you have did they remove the wheel and tighten it without damage? Tony

They didn't remove or refit the wheels, as I took the new S/S wheels to them to have a whole new set of tyres. However C&S know their vintage cars, historic racers with knock-ons etc. Balancing is done with a set of cones, which centre the wheel on the normal balancing machine.
I do have the MWS tool for removing the octagonal nuts, which is miles better than the standard "spanner", so if I was going to a different tyre shop I'd take it with me and show them what to do. They don't really need torquing up afterwards, as they are self-tightening.
