I see quite a few people on the forum who arrive from different marques. I see them going off to Porsche and others. I see a common thread around modern stuff being about as exciting as an iron. Practical but blahhhhhh.
I was looking at what would I do if I sold the S2 and Coupe. That digs a BIG hole that needs filling.
So I was looking at things like Alfaholics, way out of my already well appreciated budget. Vast money but so beautifully geeky it does not just ring alarms but smashes them clean off the wall.
I watched all of the videos on Youtoob of their stuff and interestingly one of the best ones was by Charles. I guess given his previous work and skills it should not be a surprise. I wish he had done some more, the depth of his knowledge makes the other reviews seem shallow.
This and MST Escort rebuilds make me want to reach for that hammer.

Well as an ex of BRNC Dartmouth, I can sympathise with you +8Rich. However, getting back to the question of what it would be, I have always found myself pushing back against authority if I could see no good reason for it. (Hence a short career driving ships for Her Majesty). So for me a Jaguar Mk2 3.8, Metallic Grey, Red Leather, and wire wheels, and a suitable bank job for me to drive the getaway car.
I was wondering what to say to reply to the question. Lucky enough in my old age to be able to afford most cars I might fancy, I cant think of one that really interests me. The Ferrari has gone without a back ward glance - lovely machine though it was, there is no way that it can be used in the way that it was designed to be used in the UK. Even in Wales where there are some attractive roads, you just get stuck behind white van man following say a bread van. You can only "make progress" as the police manual puts it on a motorcycle and that I have also given that up for safety's sake. Speed is the fun and speed is no longer possible because of road quality and congestion even if it were legally allowed.
Without doubt the best days were in the 60s with no maximum speed limit, no cameras , and plod in the Morris Minor that you could outrun in anything half decent. Roads were empty and you could average point to point the same or higher speeds that you can nowadays and that was with maybe 100 bhp on A roads cross country compared with x00 bhp nowadays on the motorway
Time to move on. At least in my boat there are no police, rules are replaced by common sense, no potholes, no cameras, and even on bank holidays no congestion. Freedom!
Alfa Spider, Classic Porsche 911 targa? I really don't know. I'm lucky with the Morgans. Only once, 15 years ago, I was tempted to buy a Porsche 997, but SWMBO was able to talk it out of my head. But many years later, she agreed to buy a new PlusFour, on the condition that the 4/4 should stay. I'm lucky it went that way!
I've had most of the cars I wanted as a kid and not. much changed when I got older. I've still a hankering for an E-Type, Healey 3000 or a Cobra (maybe even a copy) but in reality wouldn't buy any unless my personal circumstances changed significantly.
I guess in the same bracket as my Morgan perhaps a Tr4 or TR5
I love the Alfaholics cars and the MST Escorts, but both would cost significantly more than my Frontline MGB cost. Mainly because getting a car restored overseas means paying the Duty and taxes on it when it arrives. If I bought a Frontline from the UK it would have cost about double what I paid to get the Australian version made here and not paying import duties etc. on it.
Apart from cost I really want a convertible so a Morgan or MGB or say a Triumph TR4 has more appeal than the Alfa or Escort, plus while other countries make convertible sports cars there is something in me that wants English, I was born in the UK and moved to Australia at 14 months old but the UK car bug somehow got me and has stuck for over 60 years.
If not a convertible I feel this would be my choice https://www.supercoopers.com/classic The 130bhp to 160bhp Honda Vtec engine in a classic looking mini would probably be similar to the 215bhp Mazda engine in my MGB. I like 1960's UK cars more than anything European, American or Australian, plus I feel like Julian that a restomod UK car is less pretentious than other options.

The MST Escorts are mega.... and 'affordable'.... relatively........ I see they're now doing a 'standard' MK1 road car.... which in their words is 'cost effective'.......
I think a MK1 escort 'hot rod is way cooler, less pretentious and less temperamental than a rebuilt 911.....
I'd imagine it considerably cheaper than a Supersport as well.......🤷🏻♂️
The strange thing (which for me is great) is that I have only ever wanted a Morgan . I visited the factory in the mid late 1960s and bought my first in my early 20s from the Stapleton Afghan coated brothers before buying my others from Alf Miles in Woodbury. Devon. I never saw any being built for me as I used to jump the queue (sorry but he was good to me and we got on) .
I think driving experiences influence you but ownership is another matter……..not wanted to own any exotica .Drove a Lotus Elan, Cateram 7, TVR and a TR5 all owned by friends . A friend who stiffed me for a good sum let me drive his Porsche GT2 which was a stripped down, uncomfortable drive . You could run over a penny and know if it was heads or tails. He went bust but he did ‘lease’ us insurance replacement cars for 12 weeks at a time. Lots of choice, Shoguns, MX5s , BMW, Scenics etc. Nice having new cars every 12 weeks but a pain cleaning and sending them back…….
I did go out with a Rag Queen(Prom?) whose dad was a farmer and he lent me his XK 140 to take her out, rather than in my shared 100E Ford Fablon van ! When you gave her some stick in the country lanes, she would make a great sound, howl even. But I will stick with a Morgan.
West Coker Chris, sorry I did not see your Morgan in the local hostelry car parks but I recently left the area . Strangely we are visiting this weekend and will go through West Coker. There was a guy at the Crewkerne end of the village who had a 4/4 in a dark blue but not seen that about. for a couple of years . +8 Rich, I know little about boats, having only sailed a few times and owned a speedboat for water skiing. If I get to the coast the cheapest Plymouth Pilot or even cheaper plastic tub would be on the wish list. My old company did sponsor the Brixham Trawler race in the 70s and I have fond memories of Cherston Court , 7 days of festivities and lots of Woods 100% proof Navy rum. Glory Days. By the way I couldn't see a tow hook on the vehicle, is that an oversight or in hand, as clearly you will need to tow a decent size fuel tank/bowser behind you just to get it fueled enough to get it down the lane. I presume it comes with a Merlin engine.
