Had the 911 two years now - just picked it up from my local friendly Porsche specialist after its annual service and MOT.

Pondering on the running costs - not too dear and all due this month.


Service and MOT £270 (same as last year)
Tax due £345
Insurance due £272
Other costs since purchase two years (exc fuel) £99 tracker activation.
No other parts or repairs but got an advisory on one front tyre.

It would be a different story if using the main dealer, but would imagine southern 911 owners will be crying into their seven quid pints.

It's fair, I did say w.r.t. the roads down in Dartmouth. It's also true of pretty much all classes of car, a mini is......well not really mini is it.

You could also say that tyres went through the same bloating issue. I remember when 185/70/15 on my Dolomite Sprint was a fat one. Now the two new tyres for a Mercedes E Estate (285/30/19) are fat ones.

It is also a reflection on Dartmouth and southern Devon! Everything got fat except the roads (the potholes have kept pace) and so a fast car is a small one. Watching the tourists in the strange rovers panic as they come down the road to Dartmouth is hilarious unless you are stuck behind them. Their constant slapping of the brakes at each narrow point must make them sea sick with the air suspension in floaty-boaty mode!

Parking down here is a right pain, without the kind assistance of Richard it would be a nightmare. I looked at buying a garage (60k+) and the first four I saw were to small (short) to fit an Aero in! An aero is not a large footprint. Even if you can find a garage in town it is barely the size of an original mini!

Mind you if the car had a voice it might just point out that I have done the same and put on a few pounds.

That's the joy of the little MGB - can squeeze through the smallest of gaps ( at 152cm it's only about 10cm wider than an original mini). Parking is a dream too. My front drive is only about 4.3m long, so fits on there nicely too (and I reckon I have just enough room to squeeze a motorbike sideways behind the MG and Morgan, much to SWMBOs annoyance).

The Morgan is smaller still - same width as a classic mini and at 366cm long, about 20cm shorter than the MGB.

I'm not the smallest person out there, so getting in and out can be a bit 'origami' - I parked up outside a prostate exam place last year, and got a round of applause when I folded myself back into the drivers seat.....

Burgandymog, truth be told, I ended up owning the Tesla due to a very unfortunate set of circumstances, however having typed that, in time I have arrived at a situation where given my age and all the convenience and practicality that the Tesla provides, it would be the last vehicle I would part with....

Just about to pay road tax on the Tesla for the first time in the three years I have owned it...£195.

Feeling vary fortunate to be able to enjoy the variety of automotive options I currently have available to me, which took a lifetime of working to achieve.

Perhaps best to enjoy that which we can and while we can...?
