I need advice...
The off side rear light needs a new bulb.
The lower screw fixing the red "glass" is easy to remove.
The upper one just turns and turns...and does not release.
I suspect the captive nut isn't any longer captive and the screw is corroded into the nut.

So, how on earth do I get the screw undone without breaking the glass?
I've squirted 3 in 1 penetrating oil..we shall see what happens in the morning.
If that fails it seems my only option may be to drill out the head of the screw. As the screw rotates that could be difficult...

Has anyone else been in this pickle before?

Responses awaited...

Grab the head of the screw with Mole grips and use a junior hacksaw to cut it off?

I would if I could get the head clear from the tunnel in the plastic, but there are only a couple of turns of thread visible...

Will it unscrew if you pull the lamp fitting forward so it’s under tension as you unscrew?

It is sounding like a drill the head off job, I'd get a complete replacement lamp unit first just incase sod's law intervenes and the drill heads off into the plastic maybe.
Good luck.

as a last resort, if you are really stuck, you can sometimes pull the screw and the brass fixing free from the reflector body.

The metal holding the brass ferule in place is quite thin and will give - hopefully before the plastic lens....

Its a classic issue with metal fittings molded into plastic.

Buy a new lamp Peter and copperslip the fittings. Repeat with all the other lamp's.

I'm going up to Williams on Saturday...
So, if I can't get the screw out I'll puck up a new light unit and scrap the old one.

Annoying though!

Peter

I take it that it's a blind screw?

It goes into a brass top hat type of fitting which sits in a rectangular hole in the chromed housing.
