They seem a bit small - I'd be more inclined to fit something like this Powerflex Bumpstops

TBM - I fitted Rog’s Bump stops to my Plus4 and they transformed the car - rather than puny add on ones as per Deemon Tweeks, I would strongly recommend Rog’s fittings - a) they are substantial and well engineered and b) the height is adjustable as we know no 2 Mogs are alike so effect is achievable no matter the car.
I now have a plus four - brilliant car - but for those with a steel chassis I think Rog’s bump stops are a really worthwhile addition

Not disputing the effectiveness of them, just wondering if anyone has fitted the damper rod bumpstops and done a comparison?

I have Armstrongs (with adjustable valves) and no rear tube, so not something I can do on mine. I have made some axle bumpstops which do a similar job to Rog's.

Re the Powerflex

TBM there’s another consideration too I think. There is next to no if any spare movement in some of the dampers in both compression and extension (I know I had a pair with not enough movement). Those PU Powerflex stops are very stiff indeed, installing those potentially transfers some significant bump loads to the damper mounts. Specifying and sizing something with the suitable compliance might be tricky in the available space and as Robbie says all cars are different, even from side to side. The rear damper attachment points particularly on the earlier cars are not so robust.

Agreed Rog. I think if you did do that to the shocks you should ensure you have the later hanger design but you could be over stressing the hangers. Mine broke on my S1 Roadster under load & I replaced both sides. Your bump stops then helped as well.

Tim Eyres sells some alternative brake backplate mountings, which had I known about at the time I would have used instead of the MMC uprated items.

I recently got a pair of Tim’s “Rutherfords + 20’s” to try. With the pair that came with the car, the driver side was topping out before full axle extension so the attachments were taking the impact.

Unfortunately these bumps stops need a damper hoop to attach to and I’m fairly certain the 5 link cars don’t have them.

PaulJ, I have a 5 link Roadster and have swopped the OE coilovers for some designed by SSL (Suplex) you get 2 springs of different rates, adjustable spring preload & adjustable shocks, worth speaking to them
