I went back to the classic headlight design. These Philips H4 LED bulbs already have the official approval for many cars. But not for the typical 7" headlight inserts. To be honest, I'll take the risk, no one will recognize it as "flashy" since all headlights are so bright today. I didn't take the original Morgan headlight because it doesn't look as high quality and is plastic. This Hella is very high quality made of real glass. The light is focused precisely and it is pleasant, it does not dazzle oncoming traffic, but the transition to the dark is not quite so cut off. The sidewalk on the right is better illuminated than with the LED lamps I had before. The Hellas have a cap in front of the bulb so you can't even see what kind of bulb is in it. The Hella cost 54€ for two and the Philips H4 LED bulbs cost 127€ for the pair.
We only had to drill a small hole in the original Morgan headlight holder because the Hellaglas protrudes at one point. The lenses are only slightly curved but I like the design as it is very much.

„modern“ looking LED beam, note the rainbow colours at the top in transient to the dark, but it never was an issue for me.

Classic Hella with Philips H4-LED light (before adjusting hight). I would say at least as bright as the „modern“ LED lamp. .We tested it in the dark no dazzle to oncoming traffic.

Looks very good! Makes me also want to do such a conversion.

I agree entirely. Most of my driving is between 8am and 7pm, and (unless there's some MoT requirement ??) I'm really not bothered about Daytime Running Lights.

The way the headlights look at present with grinning DRL's doesn't impress me too much. I've still got the original headlights (changed 8 years ago) so I feel a "re-conversion" coming on.

(Ooops I see my chocolate digestives made it into one of the photos -- other brands of biccies are available).

I'm with you boys, I've never seen the need to upgrade as I find the originals more than adequate at sensible road speeds and I'm not a fan of the fixed grin on a Classic shape.

I now no longer have daytime running lights, but I do not care, I now just drive during the day always with the low beam, which is really very good with the Pilips H4 LED, firstly they are very durable and secondly they consume much less power and load the alternator less than H4 bulbs. I also feel safer when the taillights are always on as well.

Whilst I would be wary of your tough TÜV testing with LED replacements in halogen reflectors Heinz, I totally agree that daytime lights front and rear are very important when light is low or when there is mist about.

I have a regular B road run that is surprisingly fast but with many gentle twists and turns. Seeing other traffic easily makes life so much easier particularly when overtaking slow traffic when oncoming have DRL's or dipped headlamps on, although the former happens unconciously.
Don't get me on the subject of those that drive late dusk with no lamps on at all though swear

Thanks Heinz ... you made my day!

I was just looking for LED lights for my 2013 Roadster but I was not satisfied what I found so far. For my M3W it was much easier to find the right solution as I don´t follow that strictly "classic" design way. I will test the BOSCH H4 LED inserts soon!

Heinz, they look much better than the modern 'bug eyed' one on the right thumbs
