I’ve been looking at some Plus 4 cars and am trying to look up VIN numbers. Anyone know if there’s a site for running the VIN for a 65 plus 4. According to the seller it’s a 10 digit VIN.
Thank you Joe

I suspect if you search around the Morganville site you might find some data. If you are in the US, I have read where in order to register in some areas the registration authorities demanded a specific minimum number of digits to register a car in their systems, thus some owners had to add a few digits to comply..? https://morganville.org/

Thank you Joe I believe 12 or 13 digit VIN numbers were used as an interim to replace the simple chassis number in the mid 70's, but the international 17 digit VIN was not introduced in the UK until 1980. A 1965 Morgan wouldn't have a VIN number therefore although I understand in the US they were introduced as early as 1954 but not to an international standard.

A 1965 +4 will not have a VIN number , just a 4 digit chassis number. It was usually made on the cross member just in front of the seats (drivers side in UK , but not sure about LHD cars)
This may be replicated on the bonnet hinges and other places on the car (if original?) but not all cars received the additional stamps.

Thank you everyone. I guess I did forget to include that I'm in the U.S. as is the car. I'm going to try and contact the seller and ask where this number is located.

On my '75 the chassis number is on the crossmember behind the driver seat (RHD) .... it was really difficult to see as it's stamped by a nine-stone weakling before the chassis is painted .... it was clear as day after I stripped the chassis for restoration.
It would seem some US owners have been able to satisfy the DMV computer's desire to see a certain number of digits by using the chassis number followed by a suitable number of zeros.

My 1980 +8 doesn't have a VIN number, just the chassis number on a plate attached by the tool tray. There was never anything stamped on crossmembers

My 95 came with a "VIN" number tag screwed to a screw on the right side defroster vent.

When I imported my 70 +8 into the USA in 1976 I made a "vin" plate with the Ser number and stuck it on the dash. This was enough for US customs to approve the import. My Ser number is stamped on the cross member under the drivers seat.

Of course, the States vary in their rules, but I managed to register a 5 digit VIN last year in California .
