My father’s 1911 Renault Type CC
I thought you would be interested in these photographs. My father is a vintage car enthusiast. He started his working life in the 50’s as a coach builder and he could probably get a job at Morgan ! This car was a wreck when he acquired it, and had been converted into farm machinery. He bought it and restored it and it’s a real beauty now.
Renault’s were luxury limousines in the Edwardian era, competitors of Rolls Royce. A purchaser would buy the chassis, transmission and engine (with it’s distinctive bonnet) from Renault and then take the car to a coach builder for the body to be made.
When I get my Morgan I hope to take some photographs of the two cars together.

Don't think I have ever seen such a rapid response from so many on TM!
And on a non-Morgan topic!
Congratulations to father on a magnificent "resurrection".
David.

Sadly, needs to be pre-1905 for the London to Brighton run. That would make it a Veteran Car, attracting a hefty premium just because it can take part in the Run. After 1905 a car is classed as a Vintage Car.
At the risk of spoiling the tone of this topic with a bit of pedantry, the general usage in the UK for Veteran is any car built before the first world war. However the VCC designates the period 1905-1918 as Edwardian. Vintage is post WWI. I'm not sure why 1904 was chosen as the cutoff date for the London-Brighton. As you say, cars that qualify command a premium and I suspect that some dodgy practices have gone on in the past! (For instance, I remember reading as a child that the Darracq and the Spyker from the film Genevieve were too new for the run, but they seem to have gained some extra age since then as both have subsequently taken part!) Anyway back to the Renault, it is a splendid car. Do you know much of its history, I see it has a Kinross-shire registration? ~iw

What a gorgeous looking car. If only I had the time, money, patience, space, equipment..... oh, and talent. Your father must be a very proud man to achieve such a stunning restoration.

+1 Thanks for posting the photos. Dave W - that's what you want for a retirement project - not one of these modern Lotus thingies

I don't know where the registration came from. The car was actually imported from Australia where it had been used as farm equipment for about 50 years. Could have come over from Scotland before, perhaps?
