Morgans at Algarve Classic Racing - October 2012
Some photos taken on my brief visit to the Algarve last week. The Autodromo circuit near Portimao hosted the Algarve Classic Race festival. Two Morgan SLR race cars entered the Sports and GT car race with the green SLR of Keith Ahlers and Billy Bellinger finished fourth overall after two long hours of racing. Sue Darbyshires pre war Three Wheeler once again took on a smattering of Pre War Bentleys.
A Plus 8 driven by MSCC members Phil and Margaret Parkes drove all the way down to view the event. Thye were given the honour of leading a parade of classic cars around the circuit on the Sunday.. and despite it pouring with rain they were of course "top down"..

Great to see such rare Morgans travelling so far. Pity about the weather. Do they go there every year?

I'm growing to like the SLR more and more, especially the ali finish.
Saying that I wouldn't want to keep it shiny.

I agree Asbo, I wonder what the market, and indeed cost, would be for a similar shape body for a modern "Trad" -- such as a plus4

Great to see such rare Morgans travelling so far. Pity about the weather. Do they go there every year? There is a regular tour for road cars to the Algarve Classic organised by Jasper Gilder of Drive Espana see: http://www.driveespana.com/The racers go every year too..
