I am a new-ish member of Cranmog and I'd like to know, too, as it is very different in style from most of the other badges of MSCC Centres.

OK I now have the full story for you

in 1973 Ray Turner the First Cranmog Centre Secretary who wrote one of the first miscellany reports decided to design a club badge

The badge was entitled "scalded cat"

The Early prototype was renowned for the paint peeling off and the president of the club used to employ his grandson at weekends to repaint the peeled areas for extra pocket money

the badge then evolved into the ceramic types that we have today

The badge you showed is one of these early prototypes and very rare indeed!

Cranmog will be launching their 40th Anniverary badge very shortly so another evolution of the logo

Jon
(recently elected Cranmog regalia officer ) cheers

Thank you for all the information on the origins of the badges.
Copy I have is in your "one of these early prototypes and very rare indeed". I am very honored and proud, he is also one of my favorites. Cheers cheers

Later copies were "luxury" versions, still with the scalded cat, but in chrome/enamel and a strong tab. Eight different Cran Mog badges were known so far, not counting the 40th anniversary one.

There's even an unpainted version of the same badge. It looks dull, but is very rare
