The Longest Day at Lasham Airfield
My son, who has just turned 18, goes gliding at Lasham on Friday evenings and yesterday I went with him. While he was in the air I had a walk around the perimeter track and took a few photographs, including one at the winch while he was being launched.
It was a gorgeous evening and being the summer solstice there was still enough light for flying at gone 9.00pm. A lovely location.

I don't think I've ever been there without "Windmills of Your Mind" in my head!

I used to go there gliding as a student in the mid 70s. My instructor was Derek Piggott (who wrote the book) and you had to take turns "driving" the winch between flights - I doubt that would happen now (Elf 'n' safety guv, innit).

Hi Ian.
A pitty we never met at Lasham.I worked a lot on the other side at Lasham Airfield( were the bigger aircrafts are parked) and was on regular base in the Gliding club restaurant to have lunch from Gerald. A beautiful place to have a seat and watch what is happening on the airfield with nice weather. I had Tango in most of the weekends while at work..

Hi Ian
I worked one summer as a lad for Dan Air at Lasham, stripping paint off planes, a horrible job. A girlfriends dad took me up in his jointly owned glider one day, and did a loop and let me fly it for an hour, great stuff. I used to live in Four Marks, got married at Newton Valance and then lived in Alton and Holybourne and. Still have a few friends around there.

Great Photos Ian Thanks for sharing. When I lived in Hants, I remember there was a lovely old pub quite close to Lasham.

The Sun at Bentworth? The Royal Oak at Lasham?
