It looks like a Mercedes W154, but Dick Seaman carried No 16, so who had No 6? Other than the French Dinky Toy model 23c that did....
Perhaps I'm wromg, but whatever....my Dad watched the "Silver Arrows" and the Auto Unions, at Castle Donnington on 9th April 1938...
He said the noise was unearthly, like nothing anyone had ever experienced before. Supercharged 3L screaming at what seemed to be unbelievable RPMs.
Happy Christmas to all!

And here is the full story of the car and the picture, that was shot at the Goodwood Revival 2012
I am sorry, but the story is in german; I hope to find the time to translate it in english.
It is indeed the W 154, chassis Nr. 15 that was driven by Manfred von Brauchitsch in the last Grand Prix before WW II in Belgrade, the 3. of september 1939. Two days earlier during the practice session Hitler started the invasion to Poland. Tazio Nuvolary in his Works Autounion won the race with a 7,6 sec. lead to Manfred von Brauchitsch. It was the last race of the so called "Silberpfeilära". The car is now part of the „Collier Collection, Naples, Florida“.
The story of the car is like a criminal story from John Le Carré. You can read it in Motor Sport Magazine, UK, Volume 89 Number 2 2013, the article is from Doug Nye)

Guenter, here is a translation. It could be better...
The 1938 W 154 carried 3 liter V12 with two Roots type superchargers developing about 475 hp at 8,000 rev / min. The motor had double overhead cams, sriven by four spur gears. Fuel consumption consumption of 100 L/100 km needed 2 tanks containing a total of 400 L of a special fuel. Transmission was via a rear transaxle with de Dion rear suspension and a 5 speed transmission (a first). The maximum speed set up for the Nürburgring was about 310Km. Weight was 900 Kg.
The history of chassis 15 reads like a thriller by John Le Carré : -------------------------------------------------- The 3rd September 1939 , the fifth anniversary of the Succesion of Peter II to the Yugoslav was celebrated with, amongst other events, a Grand Prix in Belgrade. Two days earlier, on Friday, 01 September 1939, during the second practice session, a few German tanks wandered over Poland's western border.
And so the Second World War began: the Belgrade Grand Prix has been largely forgotten.
At the Grand Prix there were only two factory race cars from Mercedes (W 154, chassis No. 15 and No. Chassis No. 7) plus some factory cars from Auto Union and the no longer competitive Bugatti Type 51 with the driver Bosko Milenkovic . The Mercedes were driven by Manfred von Brauchitsch and Hermann Lang, the Auto Union of Tazio Nuvolari and HP Müller.
The start of hostilities caused the German team to consider leaving for home but after intervention by the Yugoslav promoter and the consent of the German Consulate in Belgrade the Grand Prix was permitted to continue with German participation .
Von Brauchitsch initially led, however, his most ambitious driving resulted in his engine cutting out on lap 16 on an uphill right turn in front of the French Consulate! His lead 13.8 sec on the Auto Union of HP Müller was lost. Von Brauchitsch got the re-started by letting it roll down hill against the direction of the race but in doing so he was passed by the Auto Unions of HP Müller and Tazio Nuvolari. Eventually after more turbulent laps with various overtaking movers and not forgetting tire damage Tazio Nuvolari won in No. 15 ahead of Manfred von Brauchitsch with a lead of 7.6 seconds.
The era of the Silver Arrows , which extended over a period from 1934 to 1939 , was at an end . Seven years passed before Grand Prix `s could be resumed.
Chassis No. 15 and No. 7, with the rest of the Mercedes Silver Arrows was initially stored in Stuttgart Untertürkheim. After the first bombing of 1942/1943 it was decided to distribute all the Silver Arrows housed there, in pairs, to other locations . Chassis No. 15 and No. 7 came to Eisenstadt in Austria where members of the Soviet Army " kidnapped " them and they ended up in Braila in Romania.
Joseph Roman and his son Tibor, two enthusiastic Romanian car enthusiasts and racers saved the cars from being scrapped when they found them at a scrap yard in Braila. (Tibor later became coach of the Romanian weightlifting team, which won at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles!)
The race cars had been transferred to the Romanian state-owned Cluj Railways Sports Club, which allowed the Romans to repair them and to go racing . Unfortunately Joseph Roman crashed with chassis No.15 difficult in a mountain and recovery lasted about two years.
The cars were later sold again, the price for Chassis No. 7 was two new Mercedes and a new VW Beetle!. The car later sold in 1971 for U.S. $ 80,000 , which went to the Romanian government . Chassis No. 7 is currently owned by Arturo Keller (owner of arguably the world 's most spectacular collection of cars ) in California.
The hunt for the repaired chassis No. 15 took a variety of "experts" . After turbulent negotiations with various interested parties and the complex issues needed to get the car out of Romania, in 1988 it was finally sold for DM 400,000 and a new VW Golf to a Dr. Biliciurescu , who ran a dental equipment supply company in Neuchatel, Switzerland. This was only finally possible after early steps in the democratization in Hungary made the emigration of Tibor Roman and his wife Erszebert, together with the disassembled chassis No. 15 and some porcelain, possible. After several challenges from other interested parties , who also had claims to chassis # 15 , it went to restoration by the company Technosim AG in Birsfelden, Switzerland. In 1999 it was sold again, this time to the Liechtenstein-based company Singing Horse AG. I year later No 15 was then on the way to California, sold through Symbolic Motor Car Co. to the Japanese collector and dealer Yoshiyuki Hayashi . Symbolic initiated a quick resale to an enthusiastic collector for $ 10 million, secured by a $1 million deposit.
At this time an old prospect, the Englishman Jerry Churcher came onto the scene. He accused the aforementioned dealers as sharks, drug dealers and mobsters, and sued them in the Superior Court of California . In 2003, the judge's decision against Jerry Churcher meant that all his claims for chassis No. 15 were denied. He was also made to pay £ 1 million in damages to Hayashi, and $ 250,000 to Symbolic and another agent in charge . Furthermore, he had to pay the court costs of $ 416,478.40.
Chassis No. 15 is currently in the "Collier Collection, Naples, Florida " .
Chassis and Chassis No. 15 No. 7 (Bearing numbers 6 and 2 ) took part in several demonstration runs at the Goodwood Revival 2012, together with the Auto Union Silver Arrows of the same vintage.
