A few more photos of the reverse of the instrument panel on the 3.0 Roadster showing the heater quadrant and the close proximity of the multi wire flat cable that feeds into the circuit board behind the panel warning lights etc. The black tape was put on to prevent any damage to the cable which is quite delicate.

Hope they all make sense!

Aaaaaahhhh I see the difference, and totally understand what you mean, on the earlier cars the quadrant down at the heater box end in the passengers footwell on UK cars is also close to a wiring harness and I thought that's the one Peter mentioned, what you have shown is very poor design to not put some kind of shield on the ribbon cable.

However, more seriously John, the witness marks on the multi wire cable (in your last picture) don't align with black tape "protection modification" rendering the cable vulnerable to damage from repeated cycling of the quadrant. That cable protection modification is rather ill conceived and executed. The scope of the tape protection offers only limited coverage, reducing the likelihood of anyone in the assembly shop being able to guarantee that the flexible multi wire cable protection aligns to the quadrant when mounting the dash.

Weak design... IMHO

The black tape is mine! I moved the ribbon cable to clear the quadrant and the black tape is now the area nearest the quadrant....but hopefully not touching!

Probably a touch of neoprene would be a better idea!

I'm no electronics expert. The module I assume takes some input from the ECU. The instruments certainly are not plugged into it, the dash switches for heated screen, fog light, hazards are plugged into it and the immobiliser light as well. The ribbon cable from the module feeds all the warning lights. It would be nice to understand how all this works!

Oops! Sorry John, there I was thinking someone at Morgan had recognised and tried to correct the design weakness... silly me!

To add further "insult to injury" the bundle of wires that runs from the connector on the upper left of the PCB to back to the loom also passes very close to the top of the quadrant as it moves. On Aldermog the insulation on some of the wires has visible scuffs.

So, the plan is to wrap this mini loom with vinyl so there is a smooth surface and also try tie it up away from the quadrant.

Looking at the back of the instruments it seems to me that swapping the tachometer and speedometer wouldn't be so difficult. Something I may well do this winter.

I have found my heater control very tight to turn, originally I was told that there were 4 settings, there are more.
Having taken the dashboard off for another reason, I could see that there was in fact a good amount of control with the knob.

I marked, on the heater control knob, the start point with some masking tape and found that to fully open, there was an arc of approx 220 degrees.
