Swept away by an Avalanche...
Crunchie and myself visited the Ultima factory a couple of weeks ago with a view to possibly placing an order for a factory-built car, but the quote for this was £110K. A bit rich for us for a track-day special and so we decided to buy one on the second hand market. Well last week we did the deal and bought this Ultima Avalanche, it is a top-specced car with a slightly detuned Chevrolet LS7 engine, giving 640 bhp which in a car weighting 930 kg makes for interesting performance. It's certainly too fast for my wheel-twirling ability, but we both look forward to our first track day event. The car is just two-years old and has done two trips to Le Mans, but total mileage is less than 2,500 miles. We pick it up this week, just shopping for insurance quotes...

Wow! That's a beaut Brian! The 640 bhp of that makes the Plus 8 seem postivley pedestrian! Wonder if the Chey engine could go into a Plus 8? Might need a brick tower building on the back end to keep the wheels on the road...

Thanks Guys, we're both pretty pleased with it and as a friend said to me it complies with the Wells Engine Rule: If it matters what gear it's in, the engine is too small! It is indeed road registered Tim, the exhaust is a very quiet custom version but it does come with an American race tuned one too. Not sure that we'll be fitting that though, as it looks almost straight through... I think the only thing that we would have changed is the colour, whilst there are very few Grey Ultima's; that's probably for a reason! Never mind a colourful stripe will make it 'pop' a bit more and in the meantime we have it's nickname: Fifty Shades!

Wow B! That is one hell of a beast! I hope you've noticed that one of the photos has been taken at a Shell station... I'm guessing you might be spending a bit of time there? Enjoy it - I have no doubt it will be impressive to drive.

Awesome! These are immense cars. I saw them at the National Kitcar show a few yrs ago. Also was passed by one on the Brecon bypass. He came up behind and the sound was a tremendous burble. I was imagining my 4/4 was making the sound! Had a chat with the owner on Pistonheads Ultima forum. He liked my 4/4 and the way I stayed in front of him 'til we reached the bypass and was considering a Morgan. He sounded awesome opening up to pass me. You will have heaps of fun in your car. You lucky bugger!

Brian, I am green with envy, can I be first in the queue for a passenger ride, maybe I shouldn't thinking about it I might then be tempted to buy one like I nearly did 12 years ago, and that could end in a divorce. I am sure you will be thrilled by its performance and handling, sounds like you may end up racing.

Blimey 640 bhp in a car that has the weight of a 4/4. I have driven a few things that have a "moderate" amount of power but nothing that has anywhere near that power to weight ratio. If it had wings it would be able to climb vertically until it ran out of air or fuel, whichever came first.
