To Know Tonneau
tonneau, n.
Etymology: < French tonneau, specific application of tonneau cask, tun: see tonnel n.
The rounded rear body of a motor-car (orig. with the door at the back); the rear part of a car with front and rear compartments or of an open car. Also, a car having a tonneau. Hence tonneau cover n. a removable, flexible cover for protecting the rear or passenger seats in an open car when they are not in use.

Abuse of the word "tonneau" has long been a problem on this site but in the last few weeks it has reached epidemic proportions. We are fast becoming a laughing stock amongst other forums who are openly sneering at our inability to tell the difference between a tonneau and a tonneau cover.*
Quite frankly it's an embarrassment. No other car manufacturer produces a higher proportion of vehicles with a tonneau than Morgan, so we of all people should be getting it right. To this end I have formed the "Tonneau Word Abuse Team" and myself and my fellow TWAT members will monitor all future posts. Anyone found misusing the word "tonneau" will be named and shamed and made to copy & paste the following phrase fifty times:
"I am a Tonneau lover and I use a Tonneau Cover".
Make no mistake, this is no idle pedantry. This is militant pedantry. I look forward to everyone's support in eradicating tonneau ignorance from this site forever.

According to Oxford Dictionaries, compilers of the OED, tonneau can also mean tonneau cover (possibly because when revising the dictionary they look at common usage, see how the word is used here and surmise that TMers can't be wrong).
