Prescott double anniversary
Last Saturday was a special event at Prescott, the 65th anniversary this year of the Mini Cooper and the 80th of the Cooper Car Co
There were some interesting cars both on display and running the hill, bit of info on a few...
The Mini nr 288 is the oldest surviving comps Cooper, having finished 1st in class in the '62 RAC Rally, and 1st in class & 3rd overall in the '63 Monte driven by Rauno Aaltonen, it went on to compete in over 60 significant rallies (inc driver John Sprinzel of Morgan SLR fame) and all this with just 997cc (was later a 1275S but all comps cars are a bit of 'triggers broom')
The Mini Clubman nr 60 is the recently resurfaced (sold for £80k ish) Patrick Motorsport 1275 GT driven by the famous Richard Longman who won the British Saloon Car Champs in this very car in 1978 & '79
Lots of Coopers too from 500's to full on V8 F1 stuff
The cars arranged on the Start are the very first Cooper Cars' single seater up to the very last with Mike (in the race suit) & Charlie Cooper
