Plus they will increase the level of water vapour in the air, causing further greenhouse effect - and probably thick fogs during colder weather

By using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. . . . Fuel cells are NO greener than the electricity used to make the hydrogen.  Exactly. But they do have the huge advantage of moving the pollution out of the cities where most people are affected - and of course if you utilise nukes* to drive the cracking plant it's pretty green. *Except of course we're probably not going to be able to persuade anyone to build them for us as the costs and risks are too great

Yup, basically, whatever we do, we're stuffed. Might as well enjoy it. At least we both have mitigating circumstances for enjoying the internal combustion engine

Robbie, The caption you quote is the post-edited version (thanks to Simon). It read differently when first posted, hence the debate. Looking forward to seeing Brian's other pictures from Geneva

Chaps, For me, the only way forward is the hydrogen fuel cell.  Where do we get the hydrogen, Reg? By using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. . . . Fuel cells are NO greener than the electricity used to make the hydrogen. But at least you can refuel with hydrogen in a couple of minutes rather than several/many hours to recharge the leccy. The argument often thrown up against hydrogen is the lack of a supply infrastructure. However it's not too dissimilar to LPG which is reasonably well available so the technology is out there already.
