Tripmaster
i see many peeps in my thread but no replies so this is how i did it in the meanwhile.... a extra metal piece beyond the drive shaft flange and a alu support for the probe. Must still test drive and calibrate if it works. Can be the same problem as with the BMW , standard probes must work within 2 mm gap. 5 mm gap probes exist and can be used when there's no much distortion in the background. As here. Air or metal. Aiming at wheel bolts inside gives only metal difference as the height of the bolt heads. We are ready for rally on sunday ! depends weather, if rain it will be the BMW....

You must be pretty sure that the probe support doesn't angle, otherwise you may have a real problem!

yes Ruut , it could destroy the probe. But the only thing that can collide with the probe/support is that extending metal piece which can rotate on his bolt so it would be out of range and within the shaft flange. The force would indeed destroy the probe/alu support....

This is presumably the electronic version of the old Halda Trimesters used by rally drivers (predominantly ) in the 60/70/80s .
I guess you have found the main issue which will be the sensors to pick up the data.
Does it integrate with satellite navigation, rather than rely totally on sensors within the car?

I plan to fit my Brantz 2 sensor on the offside front hub. There is already a hole in the caliper bracket which just needs slightly enlarging and tapping. The disc/hub will have to come off the get the drill in.I'll post pictures when I do it.

I was wondering if propshaft speed (which is considerably higher than road wheel speed) might be too fast to give a clear signal? No idea as mine were all cable driven years ago but do they give a speed range for the sensor?

But some rally organisations over here forbit GPS support ... only the oldskool probes. Also , our GPS tripmaster has rather small display...i like the bigger screens so i can , hear my copilot, but also have a quick peep at the screen sure for the last 100 m before a turn etc.

Colin, on our BMW it works perfect ..and the probe sees 4 shaft bolts "signals" as it would be on a wheel ( 4 or 5 )despite the higher revs. One can calibrate the tripmaster ofcourse . Here on the Trad it sees only 1 extension "signal" per revolution propshaft.

for those interested , i made a new support fixed at the gearbox. Now it works perfect. Problem was that the probe is that sensitive to gap that it didn't work fluently , i suppose by movement of the engine/gearbox on the silent blocks. So fixing it to the gearbox makes the probe vibrating as the propshaft itself , gap stays constant.
